New second hand boat

Finally got myself a newish boat taken a while (about 3 yrs saving) and a nice upgrade from the trailcraft runabout i had.It had been sitting for three years though, So i spend a day rebuilding the trailer at mums in Busso before i brought it to Perth new discs , calipers etc, pre greased all the bearings the night before, go to put it all together then to find out i have ford hubs with holden bearings as bearings and stub axles just didnt seem to fit right apparently this is common? Oh well rip it all apart and start again at least my mate has a full set of new bearings for his trailer. Its a 650 Southbound centre cab in excellent cond for age just needs a tidy up which im doing now it even came with termites in the cab roof lining which i have removed replaced and re upholstered, will probably have to remove and flush the fuel tank also as the fuel smells a bit off but the Yamaha 150 seem to run fine , cant wait to get it on the water couple of weeks away from that though.

Ripper mate.

Yeah I bought a new spare hub and a stub axle to clamp to my trailer so my spare tyre is a complete hub ready to swap over. Didn't realise there was a difference and bought all Holden spare parts for my trailer which is setup with Ford. $70 down the gurgler.
FOr anyone else to avoid our mistakes, Ford bearings are referred to a slimline (S/L) bearings and go on a 45mm axle whereas Holden Bearings go on the 40mm axle. Just to confuse the matter further my hubs are Holden...

Great rig. Mate of mine has exactly the same rig and have spent plenty of time fishing out of it. Good allrounder.

Nice one mate. Good on you for taking the time to get it right before you head out on to the water. Last thing you need is to be towed in or worse.
Enjoy buddy.

nice boat cant believe ppl have boats like that sitting around for years.

and yep mine has the same setup bearing and axle wise

FWIW martins trailer parts will sell a full kit...just ask for the ford hub with holden bearings. (tell them is't for a boat trailer so you get the inside water seal) whole kit for about $33.
I keep one ready in case the worst happens on a long travel

Just a thought , if its been sitting for 3 years , I would deff get the impellor looked at / replaced just for piece of mind

And I guess a full service wouldnt go astray, at least your starting with a clean slate , no doubt you have put new batterys in ,

small biccys really , considering recent Coral Bay/ wedge  misshaps, its a big bad ocean out there, you want to keep it in your

favour ,  that way your new boat will be right to go, good luck.

Service done impellor done, motor is in top shape acording to the guy who serviced it every 100 hours in Dunsbourough (has done 400) impellor was changed every service.

Batteries are new just need to go through the fuel system then put it in the river for the day to see how it goes befor i put it to sea.

Moving to Busso soon and will probably hit ground out of Gracetown with it.

You would choke on your beer if i told you what i paid for it , i needed a good score after such a loss on the truck i sold due to the down turn in the mining / construction industry atm so it sort of evens out.

And it came with a 585 in it.... Score. Do a bit of searching on here regards the sounder. They are not that hard to suss out. I've got the 587, same same great sounder. Enjoy
