new upgrade
Submitted by biggerfish on Sat, 2009-04-04 21:08
Hi all just upgraded my boat from a 4 meter estuary boat to a 5.2 meter genesis looking for some tips or maybe spots i could start looking for some decent deep sea fishing ground. Live in rockingham and have fished the five fathom with some good success but looking 2 go a bit deeper now. Any tips would be helpful have been spending a lot of time looking for some good lumps on my coloured sounder without much luck. Thanks

head out of point perron on 250 260 degrees you can't miss it comes up from 45 / 47 to 30ies get off the back of it look for coral with your bottom lock .You can fish the big lumps but you loose a lot of gear and its about 20 nm out

cheers
Will give that a try still working out the sounder read the book a few times and still not a full book on picking what i should be looking for on the bottom the sounder is a raymarine ds500 colour sounder a little diffrent 2 using my old hummingbird. Do you usually have zoom on your sounder and do u have fish symbols active or do u have it so just a coloured blurr comes up for a fish what is bottom lock all new 2 me. I Guess i cant expect 2 be catching good fish first time but a wrass would of been good What size boat have u got greg

bottom lock
its lets you read the bottom say 5 meters and it reads growth above the bottom .I split my screen and the other side i have it on 200hz I dont fish id on i just look for good ground I look for 1 meter plus growth but often pick up fish around the good growth so keep your gear in the or you can alot miles and not much fishing .I have a 5 meter razorline c/cab with 90 honda good luck.
