Hi guys,
Just moved over to WA from Sydney, living in the Pilbara, so most weekends i take off down the coast to exmouth/Karratha/Shark Bay.
Just wondering if anyone here has any recommendation on a good setup to throw poppers/stickbaits in the hope of hooking queenies, gts, mack that sort of thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as im new to this kind of fishing..
Cheers !!

What's your price
What's your price range?
There's a guy in hedland who makes very good custom rods if you're looking at higher end/expensive
I use a gt special with a 14000 twin power which has never let me down, the rod is on the cheaper side of the scale but I've never had a problem in pulling some big gts in
Popper fishing up here is pretty epic!! Especially here in karratha

As Maddy suggests a bit more
As Maddy suggests a bit more info needed jezz, if your after a light combo there is a shimano grappler 80m (8' pe4) for sale on fb for $250 (fishing in the pilbara) both maddy and i use these rods as our light gear for queenies, goldens, mid GT etc and i can recomend it as a good rod

light might be a bit more
light might be a bit more fun, but im still very new to it and have a lot to learn.
price range isnt to much of an issue, im open for anything really.. i know quality doesnt generally come cheap.
pretty much just want something i can walked around with for half a day casting while covering ground.
ill be doing alot of exploring, so walking as ill be mainly land based as my boat is back home in syd...
karratha and hedland will be the closest for me a i live in newman, but i get out to the coast at least 2-3 times a month. so i guess something that will suit a beginner covering alot of ks..

Something in the 8' pe4
Something in the 8' pe4 range will be ample unless you want to flick heavy chrome lures at steep point or similar then your more into 10' pe6+ gear.
Put good coin into a quality reel like a saltiga 4500h or stella 8000hg and youll be sorted for a huge variety of situations up here .
I really wouldnt want to be walking a long way with pe8-10 gear only to catch queenies and little trevs that cant pull drag as thats hardly fun , buy that sort of gear once you get the boat over and can target the offshore beasts .
we use the saltiga 4000h as our pe4 reels and that sort of gear is a pleasure to walk the flats with and cast 115mm stickbaits around and with a drag set at 6kg youll be amazed what you can catch

A lighter (drag) rod like
A lighter (drag) rod like the grappler , or something similar around the pe 4-6 range , is probably more suited to you then, unfortunately you don't get true monsters land based, but plenty of the gts and Queenie's you get will definitely give you a fun for your money !
At least you can use it for almost anything too, if you're here in summer you can use it as a make shift Barra rod too :) you get laughed up by the serious Barra boys, but hey if it cat he's fish, who cares!

if money isnt really an issue then
stickbait/popping casting combo for gee tees would be a ns black hole cape cod special with a saltiga expedition 8000 or a dogfight 8000 but if you not always going for gts then it might be a bit heavy so for a good alrrounder combo id go a saltiga expedition 5500h paired with either a shimano grappler 8' pe 5 or a temple reef reefer rod or just a demonblood from daiwa i would stick with the saltiga as a reel because up there it gets very hot and salty etc so thats a reel that will handle those conditions and last a long time good luck
wont catch em sitting at home!

How do you think that rod
How do you think that rod would go with the heavier stickbaits usually used for GT ?
