Night fishing for pink snapper
Submitted by Piggy on Wed, 2012-09-12 17:38
I have been looking at trying night fishing for pink snapper, I have seen quiet a few posts of people doing it and catching a few. My local boat ramp is woodman point and I wanted to know if anyone could give me any pointers, direction where to go, bait ect. I have never fished for pink snapper so I need to know a few bits and pieces so I'm not flying blind!
Cheers guys

I heard they are having some
I heard they are having some luck towards the south end of cockburn sound near the industrial area... precisely where I dont know as no-one ever gives you exact spots Its something you have to learn for yourself.... If you have never been nightime fishing I suggest going with someone who has In case you get into some trouble, Pinky's like all sorts of bait by my tip would be some fresh squid on the old paternosta rig and try a bit of bottom bashing or you could berley up and throqw down some drift baits... Its not that easy, I suggest you read some more posts and go out during the day to try and sound out some good locations so you can mark them for when you return at night.

My suggestion would be to fish a floater rig, ie main line, swivel, trace down to a snood 2 hook rig to suit bait with a fluro bead just above 1st hook. I don't use a sinker with this rig and it has proven with berly to work for me.
A knowlege of Snapper habitat also helps. I look for reef and fish on the sandy side of the reef berlying back onto the reef knowing snapper cruise this area and these tend to be their highways.
Fish a rising tide and peak feeding times, see link.

This link gives you more than just tides.

If you head out west from
If you head out west from woodies on sunset you will see dozens of boats in one area, start there.
If you have a sounder read the ground.

Piggy i have gotten pinks and dhus on ffb at night, be careful it can get a bit hairy if theres swell even in that monster trophy you got. A lot of the pinks you are seeing are sound pinks from very secret locations, i have gotten a few quite a few yrs ago and havnt tried for a while but if your looking for deckies let me know i am keen to come out and sound around for ground, been thinking of doing it myself.
