Night snapper session help
Submitted by Rodrat on Thu, 2009-01-01 11:03
G'day
I am after some advise, help, tips as to where in the sound is best for a night snapper session?
Depth,time,baits,gear?
I have tryed a few times in differant areas around the sound,D9,Sulphar rock, gravel patch, but only ever been
hammered by bloody rays and port jackson sharks. I anchor and burley, is this the best way?
Caught plenty out around the five but never any in the sound. Would love to get a keeper from the sound but doesnt seem to be happening!
Any info greatly appreciated
Cheers

Nuffin like a nice ray wing
Nuffin like a nice ray wing slapped on the barbie ay? Not to mention those pretty little Wacko Jackos ;-)
Mate, i'm in the same boat as you on this one. Effort for no return, then you see the yakkers cleaning up - must all be in the technique ay?
Good starting point may be to hold fire til the ban is lifted though ;-) JMO?

Snapper will come onto
Snapper will come onto different features at night or in the early morning dependant on tides and the moon stages to feed , in some area's there may be three or more boats in a tight area burleying up on anchor so it will be he with the best burley trail wins . Old squid , pilchards fish scraps ect are great addition to chook pellets and oil and even pilchards cat food is great burley but the trail must be constant but not heavy as you want to attract them not feed them . One you start getting a few smaller species coming into the trail you know that it is working all you have to do is slip down you favorite fresh bait and wait for the action to start
I wish I had an emo lawn so it would cut it self

Sure is a ban
Sure is a ban on;
Department of Fisheries Southern Bioregions Manager Kevin Donohue said fishing for pink snapper was not allowed in either of the Sounds between 1 October and 31 January each year.

Yeah rodrat for sure. DoF
Yeah rodrat for sure. DoF often changes the dates to suit conditions (a good thing if they still spawning late/early due to conditions). Watch this space PM sent
