non slip , boat floor covering

hey guys

after a big day out the other day , i got to thinking i really need to cover the fibreglass deck with some non slip easy to clean (pref without lifting ) flooring.

anyone know anything about that cork flooring you see on the plush game boats , or is there a better option (aside from wearing thongs)??

Yeah.  That sound like the stuff to go for.  I'm guessing it's a bit like the ute spray on liner stuff.  Really tuff.  We have marine carpet in our boat but if it gets a tiny bit of fish oil/burley on it with a bit of water it can get a little slippery.

I was going to get sea-dek

Thu, 2010-02-11 19:29

I was going to get sea-dek for my boat but decided on marine carpet instead as there was no WA agent and I didn't want to order metres of it and pay postage. Not sure if anyone on WA does it now as this was a year ago.

otherwise on my old fibreglass boat I just had the deck painted with a additive (like sand) that gave a rough, non slip feel. Cheap, tidy, easy to clean and effective. BIAS sell the additive in their catalouge in the paint section.

just a stupid idea that ive used on my boat and a lot of pro boats .. layer of paint then a layer of clean sand ... sweep off the excess then coat in paint again .. anti foul works to as it has wax in it so water beads off it and doesnt get slippery - just a note .. it can get a little warm underfoot but a bucket of water fixes that

We use to do that on the crayboat deck, sand gave good grip but it rubed of in no time ,but we were on it 7 days a week.Would go the distance on rec boat as not as much traffic.

If you have a nice boat there is NO way I would be painting a fibreglass floor.

If you are going to do it do it right or you will just kick yourself after

that rubber flooring stuff

that rubber flooring stuff is as slippery as ,imo your best off getting carpet, you can get it at a decent price and is not hot under foot either, just wash it down every couple of trips unless it gets real messy as it can do at times. i have had no probs with carpet at all

Rubber tube matting

works for me.  Easy to hose and scrub if need be and doesn't retain odours.
