Evening in an incoming tide

Evening in an incoming tide otherwise be there all day and nite. You'll never know when they turn up. As for spot, I prefer the last leg of the North Mole but on the north side, not right at the tip....too hard to land fish.

I was fishing the north mole

I was fishing the north mole one november night about 7 years ago, right after a massive storm that destroyed part of the disabled access ramp. There was still a really big swell and about 5 minutes after getting there a guy next to us hooks up to somthing big.. My first thought was hed caught a tackle busting ray and serves him right for leaving his bait on the bottom. A few minutes later a huge snapper is literally skull dragged upto to the surface before busting off. couldnt believe what id just seen. Had my cheap ass kmart combo spooled with spiderwire which cost more than the rod/reel, i tied a crappy 3/0 gang and shaking with adrenaline thinking about what might happen in the next few moments cast out an old leftover mulie.. 30 seconds later i hooked up and eventually landed a 7kilo snapper. Despite the big swell, lack of net or gaff we still got 6 big fish, the biggest measured 97cm. if wed known what we were doing, had decent gear etc we would have landed alot more. atleast every second cast resulted in a bite pretty much until we ran out of bait. As far as conditions go ive heard that after a big storm is the best time, and that snapper prefer to feed at night. we were fishing off the disabled access ramp and the fish were right infront of the rocks. Iv fished at the mole so many times, more than any other place and it only happend for me once.

wasnt using any sinkers or a leader, only had a 3/0 gang and a mulie. No wind or chop just a big heaving swell. we fished there the next 3 nights in a row and didnt get one good bite.
