Awesome trip..... fingers crossed for the 1m Barra.... and thats a massive prawn by the way.....
That crossing looks familliar too- a guy I worked with showed me photos of him and his old man fishing there.... from what I recall he also just didn't quite make the 1m mark but had heaps that were just under...
The vehicle crossing is the Roper Bar crossing where the Roper Hwy, coming from Mataranka, crosses the Roper River and heads into Arnhem Land. Very popular spot and one of the best spots to regulary produce +1m Barra from the shore. I have personnally seen a 131cm and a 126cm pulled off there myself, plus millions of undersized Barra.
The Prawn is a Cherabin sort of a big northern freshwater Prawn. They make great Barra live baits if thats what the Barra are feeding on at the time(as opposed to Mullet). Not bad on the chew either. You use Cherabin/Yabbie opera house nets to catch them. Usually leave them in overnight and have a dozen or so by morning if they are on the feed not bad seeing you can have ten nets out so quiet easy to get ALOT if you wanted to. We mainly just kept 10-15 for the days live baits and didnt really bother with cooking and eating them.
Nah not really afraid of Crocs. Have a healthy respect for them though :) and will never put myself in a really stupid situation, like i see some locals do, fishing waist deep at crossings or wading out to get a snagged lure, bugger the lure i say if its snagged!
Do get a bit paranoid when they lurk at the motor of your boat watching you when tied up. Especially the big ones. Sometimes just up and go if they wont leave us alone.
The pic where i am kneeling right on the bank is an area where big crocs are very uncommon(in saying that i think in 2011 they pulled a +3m from there!), is regulary trapped but NTPWS, behind me it was clear water only about 50cm deep right out into the middle of the river, and what you cant see in the pic is about 20m to my left there was a family and kids all swimming in the river :O Hey if they are swimming there they probably seem like a juicer/easier target for a hungry Croc!!!!
I always try and keep a tree, rocks, logs or roots between me and the water so at least there is a bit of an obstacle for a lunging croc.
Lived 5 years up there, fishing and being around them, so you start to learn to live with them. In saying that you can never get to complacent or comfortable with them as some seem to do.

Are you two twins or what? Unless theyre all you and you had a haircut in the middle of your trip?
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.
