Nth Stradbroke Island

 HI all,

Heading over to Nth straddy for a wedding at the end of the month and was thinking that I'll chuck a rod (maybe the 7 foot 3-5kg) in with the Surfboards.  Don't really want to take too much fishing gear, maybe just a couple of trays of sp's and slices to chase the bread and butter species off the beach/flats if the weather is co-operating.

Anyone been there before and could give some advice regarding general spots, species and lures used?  Not looking for a handrawn maps to the family secret spots or anything, just curious to see how the fellow snandgroupers fared over there.

Cheers

G'day Queenies and Dart, they were my entertainment when I went there quite a while back, caught off the beaches on the east side. Got some ripper tailor in the evening, all caught on lures and a 10ft 2 piece rod, can't remember the reel, but it would have been a Daiwa something. The slices will be a good option. And pretty well anywhere is a good option to fish.

The ocean side of the island

The ocean side of the island is all surf beaches, the inside mostly estuary and mangrove.  Some nice rocky headlands at the north end.  To the south is Jumpinpin.  Fairly wide variety of fishing, although I'd say the most common type of fishing gear would be a longer rod and appropriate reel for beach/surf/rock casting.

Probably a bit early in the year yet for any decent tailor but lots of other species - dart, whiting, flathead etc.

It's a big island - 20-25km long - you will want some way of getting around.

got a stack of bream on crabs we found off the rocks. There was a platform further around the headland that blokes spun spanish macks off. Apart from that, great surf and lots of it..
