Occy basics

Hi All

I'm just doing a bit of prep for the forthcoming cray season getting pots ready etc even tho its a while off. I was thinking that if i'm to go to the effort of pulling pots each morning I may as well give the Occy's a go too. Just looking for some tips, do you generally drop Occy Pots in the same area as cray pots, or are there some other features you might look for?

I usually drop Cray Pots in behind 3 mile off Ocean Reef.

Appreciate any help on this including prefered baits!

Cheers

Jarrod

If you go off the shelf my uncle says he had a couple stolen and now uses a tiny ball on a thin rope as a float and paints it blue and says he has to really look for it when he hits his marked spot. Hasn't had one stolen since. That's down Bouvard way though.

Better off

With tyres. Drill holes where tyre use to sit on rim. Pull closed with big zippy ties. Cut side walls ( approx 1 foot long) don't remove. bend inwards ( inside tyre) this way you make 2 to 3 pots out off one .getting Occo out easy( use concentrate pool salt ( sea salt)diluted in bottle.2. To 3 drops on occy they fly out off pot .  Occy hate high salt content. Don't damage occy also doesn't harm environment . Good luck:):)

cutting side wall

Fri, 2016-07-22 11:36

I think Little Johnny means by cutting the side wall and push the flap into the tyre it will act as a wall (I presume cable tie that as well) and if you do that three times you will have three separate compartments inside the one tyre giving you three occy pots.. That's my take on it..

Yep that's how John does it, big tyres 3 holes small ones 2,
cable tie the beads together so the only opening is the holes you make in the side wall

Do you have to mark your lines with floats, and if so, how many pots per line ? I can only find info on trigger traps

 Trigger traps need floats

Trigger traps need floats and ID.  Pots that dont trap dont need to be marked.

You do same

For tyre traps . But if someone steals them big deal. Make new ones . Put pot id on them and hope for best. Nothing worse than throwing money away.
