October tinny trip - Exmouth or Shark bay
Submitted by Tinny Basher on Fri, 2023-09-01 06:28
Hi Gang, Looking to do a trip in october just after school holidays. Never fished WA coast as have been in darwin but had a bit of a look on this site and weighing up shark bay or esperance. Will have a 3.9 tinny so any advice on spots weather this time of year would be welcome. No family so just a boys trip with swags and 4wds.

October could go either way
October could go either way wind wise. You may get glamour conditions or it may blow like stink.
We are up there the week before and first week of the holidays and I will share anything we find once home.

Not Sure
Not sure about Shark Bay as have never been there but here in Exmouth with a tinny you still have a few options in the Gulf if the wind is up..... Not that I have had much of a chance to explore the Gulf in the boat yet but plenty of launching opportunities for a tinny and should be able to find protection from the southerly and SW winds that are more common that time of year.
I'm still blown away it can be blowing 20 knots+ on the west side and can be sheet glass in the gulf at the same time!

Exmouth .....absolutely no question
The Gulf adds so many options if the wind is up. Ocean side......as we used to do and carry the boat from one of the car parks and beach launch though the surf. So so many options with such a perfect sized tinny. We used to fish Halby Bank just DONT head there if a big swell is running. If you have a small digital sounder take it, anchor to fish back to the structure don't anchor over the structure and very lightly burley. Making me jealous even writing this

Have taken a dinghy to Shark
Have taken a dinghy to Shark Bay and it was good most days. Have only ever had a bigger boat in Exmouth but had a windy trip where I would have loved a dinghy to fish the bottom of the Gulf. So much ground there to explore!

You can even launch at
You can even launch at tantabiddi and run inside the lagoon to chase spangos and lots of other great fish.
