heard on the radio a while back they towed it down from singapore for service as mentioned. pity you couldnt fish around it, would be a great fad for a while
Yeah I have no doubt Rob,don't think my client has any kit on board. Spewing other wise I'd be out there more than likely. Did you see my question the other day asking if you know a skipper Kevin Stone?
Ha ha all good, He used to be the skipper of the True North before now working on the Barrow barges. I know his inlaws quite well and now him over the last year.
We discussed cruising out to it on Sat to see if there was any bait gathering around it but weren't sure how far the exclusion zone was and didn't fancy a fine.
It's a drilling rig, can drill for oil or gas (but mostly finds water). Its been up in the Exmouth Gulf doing work for BHP over the past year plugging up Wells which are no longer in service.
It's being serviced before being towed down to the bight/bass straight area and is now under contract to another company.
I can confirm a 500m exlusion zone, but this doesn't mean you can't stay out of this zone and trawl lures in curcles around it..... I wouldnt use my favorite deep divers as if you get too close you could get snagged in anchor chains (will have to get your lures pretty close though.
Im unsure of the anchor laying spread while it's off cott but could be fun for those who know how to use their sounders to find the anchors (think big atrifical reefs) if they are further out than 500m...
Its the ocean monarch its been drilling out of Karatha for a couple of years its heading to the bass straight to drill just a stop over till it starts in the bass straight i was workin on that rig

Ocean Monarch
It's called the Ocean Monarch. They brought it down here for maintenance to escape the NW Cyclone season. Then off to Bass Strait in Feb.

Yep, that’s how I understand it. I think we have a team going onto it.

Actually picked up some work for this rig today for Baroid surface solutions, she apparently sets sail on the 16th and Cooper drilling has hired her.
