Ok All You Tackle Junkies

I know there are some tackle junkies out there who are right up on these things.

With ICast just around the corner, what exciting new gear can we expect to see coming out?

Do you have any ideas on what new reels or reel upgrades Shimano or Daiwa will be bringing out next?

Well, when I posted up the pics of the Daiwa Saltist lever drag in one and two speeds, a few people noted that it was surprising that there wasn no blingier saltiga version. Perhaps there is going to be one of those released?

As the Saltist name implies, these reels were designed for all-out serious saltwater fishing, and that means simple, straight forward mechanisms that can withstand the punishment and still work flawlessly, time after time. Like a manual bail trip for fewer moving parts - greater strength and reliability. Even a dual, full-time anti-reverse you can depend on, with no lever to accidentally turn off or snag line. Reliability and performance...that's Saltist. Features include: Rugged, all-metal construction, Aluminum alloy body, sideplate, and rotor, 6.2:1 high speed gear ratio retrieves up to 53 inches of line with every crank, Digigear digital designed stainless and bronze alloy gears, 6 bearing (5 CRBB + 1 RB), Manual return bail closure system, Bail lock - during cast, Airbail tubular stainless bail, Machined aluminum handle, Waterproof drag and body construction, Forged aluminum spool with blue titanium nitride ring, Zero friction main shaft for added power, Dual full time anti-reverse, 22 - 33 lbs. of max drag pressure, Twist Buster 2 line twist reduction,

You know what I don't get is

Tue, 2009-06-23 15:32

You know what I don't get is how theycan release a daiwa catalina 6500 with 30kg of drag in aus, and then a daiwa saltist 6500 with 33lb drag.

I guess we will see when they actually release them.

I think the catalina is just a saltiga blast, without the saltiga label so they can sell it in non-TD shops :p. As for the drag, the saltists are around 230 US (say around AU300), but the catalinas are around AU600-700, so a few differences (including with the drag) makes sense.

I did notice an australian

Wed, 2009-06-24 09:18

I did notice an australian website saying that they would have the daiwa saltist lever drags in the 20 and 30 sizes, one and two speeds, but the end of this month but a long wait till November for the 40 and 50 sizes.

Perhaps the daiwa saltist spin isn't so far away?

are sold at a reasonable price.

There is talk of an upgraded Daiwa Sol - but not sure if that is for the spin or the baitcaster reels.

Funny you mention that, I'm after a 4000 size and I was wondering if the sol was a bit long in the tooth.
