old mans KGW

i work in henderson and got the call yesterday from my old man requesting weather details. "like a sheet of glass" was my response, so he packed up the tinny and headed out from woodies towards garden island / ffb.
he only had an hour or so to fish and when i called him he had only picked up a few wrasse and rockies, but when he called me back he had landed a king george. he called it for 60cm but he is a compulsive liar so i got him to take a photo next to a ruler and it came in at "only" 55cm. he reckons it weighed 1.5kg but as i said, he is a liar so take that with a grain of salt.
either way, nice KG and he was pretty stoked.
p.s. it sucks working next to the water on days like yesterday.

I think you are right about the 1.5kg lol What a cracking KG especially in close. We get that sort of size out of 40m not that close in. He would be stoked with that

yeah not the best photo but
yeah not the best photo but there were other ones clearly showing the 55cm. trust me, i am a harsher judge of my old man given the stories he tells.
i notice that as he gets older he loses track of what lies he has told previously and contradicts himself. he hooked a mako a few weeks back and the two stories i have got are that the shark was 2m long and he fought it for 40 minutes and that it was 1.5m long and he only had it for 10 minutes before it jumped and spat the hook. the baseline of his stories is always true, so there was a mako on his line, but the rest is debatable
anyway, all good and this particular fish is one of the best KG's he has caught in his 64 years on the planet.

That's pretty much how all my stories go both fishing and non fishing related. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story I say

Kept a few records.....
Our last few successive club records go:
1.2kg = 59cm
1.35kg = 57cm
1.4kg = 58cm
The 1.2kg fish was obviously a bit lean. At 55cm, you old mans fish would easily be over 1kg I reckon
