the one that got away

Last night was both exciting and dissapointing. i went to the mouth of collie river for a fish with the missus last night, just off lerici circuit near bar island. the arvo started off with a good crab feeding frenzy on the mulies, but no other action to speak of. the sun started setting and i finally hooked up...to a small herring- which went back out as live bait.

Given that the sun was going down, there was a little bit of boat traffic coming back in, and im extremely dissapointed with 2 of them that passed...my line wouldnt have been any more the 8-10m out from the bank (easily avoidable given the width of the river and the lack of other boats travelling in the opposite direction) yet i still somehow managed to loose 2 rigs to those morons.

On a more positive note- later in the evening, i had a good old chuckle watching the missus dive into the water up to her waist, chasing after her setup which had the herring on it. I cant stop kicking myself over not putting a wire trace on it now! the drag was set low, but obviously not low enough -oops. In a split second it went from zzzzzzzzzz, to splash - pulled the rod holder out aswel, which was burried pretty deep. I had a beer in one hand and my setup in the other... so all i could do was yell 'YOUR ON' and watch the comedy of it all unfold.

Unfortunately it bit clean through my 100lb leader after a 5 second run, so i'm guessing it must have been a bull shark with the way it took off. Would have been nice to land the beast. not going to let the dogs paddle around there anymore either haha.

So from now on its wire traces regardless, hopefully ill be lucky enough to land it next time, if i use enough traces i might even be lucky enough to land that tinny ive always dreamt of haha
