Just when I was considering getting another NSS, Simrad have released these cool gadgets to add to existing setups. View screen from iPhone or full touch-screen control from iPad.
Due out later in November. - price will be Interesting

Yeah - I knew the Raymarines have it - but thought it was built in Bluetooth ?
or was that just the iPhone viewer ?
i can understand the need for a separate unit to interface & enable controls via NMEA network though.
Not sure about Simrad's choice of Wifi vs bluetooth though.
Probably higher data rate and stronger signal over distances and through walls on bigger boats.
I think wifi is a bit heavier on the iPad / iPhone batteries though.

Ramarine has both BT and wifi on it.
I guess $199US isn't a bad price for an addon if you want it.

I want it for extendend trips
I want it for extendend trips to the Kimberley. Laying in my swag at 2am in 5-8 knots of current stressing that we maybe drifting even know the anchor drift alarm is set. I get up 4-5 times per night to check the plotter.
How cool would it be to just pick up the Ipad check all is OK then straight back to sleep.

Yeh the bt is for remotes and music playback and wifi for streaming, its awesome when i fish from the front of the boat !! The sim with that aerial should have a better range but.

The NSS has got them all too Glastro, CCC's just saying it'd be great to look at the screen via iPad/iPhone without getting out of his swag.
NSE/NSO support will be in 2013 for screen viewing via WIFI too (with the addition of the WIFI-1 module), but there seems to be plenty of NSE/NSO owners pissed off with the fact that Navico won't be supporting remote control via the iPad touch screen like with the NSS.
