Should've left the leg down
Then he could have gotten rid of the smoky old two stroke on insurance He's probably just someone who just relied on the winch rope to keep it on the trailer--" it worked for me grandfather, me old man, and it has (had) worked for me all me life" Until it didn't.
Or maybe the bow eye broke, that also happens. If you have an older glass boat, it's worth removing that eye for inspection. They can get crevice corrosion in the area where the stainless passes through that thick reinforced area, totally undetectable from the outside. When I bought the Dominator, and cleaned out the anchor locker of old rope, I found one leg of the bow eye sitting in the bottom. Removal of the eye found that half of the eye had simply corroded through inside the glass. One to remember.

I always put a ratchet strap
I always put a ratchet strap over the back aswell. That way you can turn a corner knowing it's not gonna fall of the trailer. Always wondered how much damage it would do to the bottom of a glass boat and the repair cost

When I see that sort of thing
My simpathy goes out to the owner, just where do you start to get your boat up of the road without doing further damage and not getting further grief from following traffic who have there brains in neutral
