we rugged up for the cold weather, fleecy top, shorts and thongs....hehe. now you didn't think i would tell you where the barra where did you???
The one in my avatar was caught there a couple of weeks ago, 1.25m long, about 30kg......it was tired so i reached over and grabbed it by the mouth and hauled it on board....took the pics and then swam it alongside for a good 10 minutes before it kicked off...was a good feeling to see such a great fish swim off like that.

depends.....
on what you are targeting.
Barra, given the cooler weather will likely be sunning themselves so shallow runners such as Bombers, Rediy's, Rapala, yo zuri, Manns, lucky craft, lively lures etc. we have been scoring good fish on Classic 10+-20+ depending on depth, lively lures 3" mad mullet and silver, Predatec spoonbills (4m). it's all about matching the hatch and changing sizes all the time
Plastics will work wonders and we have been using anything from hollowbellies through to 3" slam. just match hatch again and change until you find the fish. best is jsut take heaps of squiddgies, 65-110mm slick rigs, eveil minnow is best. cheap and very effective

Thanks damo6230 that us
Thanks damo6230 that us helpful as I am looking for lures for barra & jack etc.
I just filled out a bit of my profile. So would it be pretty cold at the end of this month? I know it will be warmer than here(qld)?
I am taking a few bucktail jigs as well for spinning for queenies etc, is this a popular lure? Anything else u could recommend?

Welcome to PM me and I'll provide as much info as I can.
Jigs work very well.
The water temp here is around 20-22 and over the last three weekends we have scored plenty of Barra, Jacks, Fingermark and Cod etc. That's fishing saltwater and down to about 5m. Most times the Barra are just smaking the lures but last weekend they were engulfing them.
The same lures you use their will work here, I just change often and as a general rule I start small and then upsize. By small I mean 65-100mm then upsize if required. The type of lures depends on the water turbidity first and foremost, and I'll regularly swap between silent or rattle. One lure works one day but not the next.
Look for bait and find the size comparison in your lure.
The biggest issue here is tide; the tides here are big! Neaps are around 3m while springs are up around 7-10m. Tides thus limit your fishing window and we concentrate on the change of the tides and I find the outgoing, especially the last of the tide and the very start of the incoming the best. Look for usual structure but if I am up a creek I fish the drains on the outgoing. Remember to travel with the tides and save on fuel.
I'm sure if you fish with a guide he will sort you out. The fishing really is a bonus in this country.
If your in QLD get some excaliber lures (I've just given away a secret )
cheers
