Out!! Cricket

Just My opinion
Having played cricket (junior) and captaining Taranaki U15's in NZ believe that was fair play. There is no difference between any ball 1-6. You have to ground your bat or body or you can be run out or stumped if you are out of the crease. Just because it is ball 6 and at the end and you are about to walk and talk does not give you the right to not be behind your crease. Once över"is called you can then go and chat.
Otherwise what is to stop you from sneaking a quick single in the game, especially in T20 and ODI's in the last over's.
JMO.

Initially it didn’t sit well
Initially it didn’t sit well with me until I took in that Bairstow tried to do the same thing to Labuschagne the day before (just not good enough to hit the stumps) and Duckett didn’t walk on the Starc catch so where was the ‘spirit of the game’ there. Where was the spirit of the game on day 4 when the Poms bowled 302 short balls at 130km/h down the leg side?

We've got 4 in the house
We've got 4 in the house including 1 in our bedroom. We have the same conversation every Boxing Day which is the Test followed by the Scorchers.
"Are you planning on just watching cricket all day?"
"Not alllll day, I plan on heading down to the bottleshop at some stage....."

Sounds like my house and conversations on boxing day... Had this bloke Tommy Dean from the US at a corporate event years ago and he told this joke re finally understanding why we love cricket www.youtube.com/watch
And to the dismissals... Both the Starc and Bairstow decisions correct and fair game in my view. Both players need to take ownership here, with both being examples of lazy unthoughtful cricket. From day 1 playing as a junior we were taught
- When taking a diving catch make sure the ball never touches the grass as you fall to the ground; (Just like classic catches in the pool, you need to keep the ball out of the water for the catch to count)
- Don't leave (or get back in) your crease after leaving a ball.

Oh they are so salty it's awesome! Jesus I learnt that basic shit when I played for the B team at primary school, never left the crease until the over was called. The sooks keep referencing sandpapergate, at least the lads involved fell on their swords and took what was coming to them.
That 2005 series where they tampered and admited it yet got away with it FFS, glass houses chums.
As for the Starc video I've watched that over and over, he well and truly had control of that ball before it touched the ground.
Stokes should be pointing the finger at his idiot batsman for not being careful, and the flog should have walked instead of standing there like a stunned mullet.

Poms are good at preaching
Poms are good at preaching about spirit of the game when it goes against them, yet conveniently forget about it when shoe's on the other foot. You can't have it both ways. Had Duckett walked in this test and Crawley in the 1st then fine, you can take the high moral ground, since you haven't you can piss right off. If Bairstow could throw straight on day 3 and got the same result I'm sure he would have no qualms with the dismissal. Anyway, has been great viewing, I'm seriously short of sleep and only have 3 nights to catch up before the next one starts, bring it on!

Personally not a big cricket
Personally not a big cricket fan, but I don't get it.
I understand the rules involved but werent they going to win anyway?
Should have saved that until if Aus were against the wall-keep your powder dry for when its needed
Aus cricket rightly or wrongly has an image problem they have been working hard to address, so it seemed pointless to throw that away for nothing?
The "win at all costs" image didnt serve them well-mud sticks unfortunately

Yeah fk em. All the shit
Yeah fk em. All the shit Robinson and Brook and co talked before we even arrived then during the first test. Bairstow's dismissal is nothing but a welcome distraction from #bazball being dismantled.

Im sure he would have run
Im sure he would have run through for a single if the ball was fumbled or missed the stumps when thrown, I'm sure he wouldn't have just stood there and said its not in the spirit of the game because its the last ball of the over.

And today we see vision form
And today we see vision form 2014 where Bairstow does the same thing but was actually waiting for it to happen and they say it's very smart cricket! Succession reference - in the words of Logan Roy - Fuck off!

Yes. Not that I neccesarily
Yes. Not that I neccesarily like it or agree, the game has evolved with the growth of 20/20 cricket and there is a need for the rules (and spirit) to evolve with it... it is just as unfair for non-strikers to continually leave their crease early without any recourse being available (or frowned upon if enacted).
They are even evolving the mankad rules in juniors. From last year, the following rule was specifically adopted for u12's and up here in the West...
Run outs by the bowler of the non-striker before delivering the ball.
(i) Each individual non-striker must be warned twice before being given out run out should the occurrence happen a third time.
From u14's there is only 1 warning before the umpire is obliged to give the batter out.

New rule
I note that in that new rule a warning must be given, in senior, National and international cricket it has always been an unspoken rule that a warning should be given prior to mancadding another player. 3rd test will be interesting although I hope the English don't stoop to any low levels.

Don't have a problem with that, they pay their money to watch and as long as comments aren't derogatory to the players families they can boo and say what they want !

My understanding is that they
My understanding is that they have tweaked the wording and as of last year it is now deemed a 'fair' runout (it's always been a legitimate but 'unfiar' dismissal) and the onus is on the batsman to remain in their crease as it got the point where they were halfway down the pitch by the time the bowler had delivered it thus cheating. The bowler must also perform a mankad in the action of the delivery i.e. they can't pretend to bowl then turn around and whip the bails off and doesn't have to give a warning.
Will def be interesting to see if the Poms double down on #bazbawl as it could either fire them up or see them crumple in a heap.... again. Looks like they've gone for a long batting lineup so could well be the case.
