Outboard advice

At the risk of starting a Holden vs Ford type 'debate'  I'm thinking of repowering our boat. The original thought process was a 60HP Yamaha or Suzuki 4 stroke. But then the quotes came back in which also included a Mercury 60 4 stroke which currently sits $1300 cheaper than any of the others. I'm finding it hard to pass this up.
Any feedback on people on the know about Mercury these days will be greatly appreciated as I am leaning that way but have not heard too much about them in recent years.
Thanks in advance.

 Mate just went through the

Mate just went through the same process. His end result was a Honda 60. Honda had a cash back deal running and the dealer gave him a better trade price. Think the difference was nearly 2000 cheaper in the end.

my 60 merc has been great

but perhaps a little louder than the yammi.
I was told the merc's have a stronger top end and the yammi's have a better hole shot. mine is the previous model - 2009

at the end of the day,

Whatever you choose it will be a brand new, trouble free motor, for at least 5+ years. Tbh,  a motor is only as good as its service history and how well its been looked after.

Im looking at similar size new 4 strokes at the mo, and yeah I'd love a new suzuki, but you cant argue with the savings on a merc, and if its from new, at least youll know its history if it starts playing up in 5+ years.

 That's what I've been

Mon, 2014-09-29 18:44

That's what I've been thinking myself Scotto. Keen to just hear if there's been any issues. So far none but we will see!

I agree they are louder than the Yammie which sucks a bit but it still won't be as loud as the Evinrude 2 stroke on it at the moment.

Nickk I did see that but the price is still $1300 more mate. Makes me wonder why the Merc is so cheap!

keep em coming guys.

Dunno whether they have fixed the prob

Tue, 2014-09-30 07:44

but the pipes on the intake on the merc got smaller at the t peice and when shallow running up north was forever unblocking shit out of it. Have used all 3 commercially and would pick the Suzuki everytime. Quieter, more efficent and the service diagnostics that are available and the actual service provided by the dealer are mind blowing. But different strokes for different folks I guess.
