Overkill

It behoves me to make this comment but there are some sorry idiots out there, like the one who had to verbally abuse my 13 year old son who was tending my boat moored onto the finger jetty at the casuarina boat ramp on Sunday whilst I got car to retrieve the boat ( did not take me more than 2 minutes to get trailer into water and a further 1.5 minutes to have boat out and ramp cleared).  Yet this tool ( not an impatient idiot cause that implies some sort of reasonability) not only mouthed off at my son but also nudged into the back of my boat to make his point - my son told me once home.

If the owner of boat "overkill" is a forum member I have a pm for you; please contact me.

Bet the gutless wonder wouldn't pm you even if he was a member on the forum. 'Big men' who mouth off to younguns rarely have the balls to accept responsibility for their actions.

what a f&$kstick.

Cheers guys; don't mean to rant on the forum but hoping to get a pm from OverDill ( unlikely - seeing as he did not say a word to me whe I retrieved, only to my son)

Having saild that, I sincerely doubt he is a member of this forum as his actions are not in the spirit of the comments that I have read on FW

Im 14 and if he said that to me i would memorise what he said , his rego and talk to the police, get him done for assualt, and some others stuff. Def wouldnt start swearing back, i would just act calm so maybe he realises how much of a D*** he is. Or for lols, id start crying and screaming that he was abusing me and see where that got him.

Tue, 2013-04-02 13:33

Why was he abusing him? Was your boat at the end of the jetty? Nothing worse then coming back to a crowded boat ramp and have morons sitting there with the boat at the very end of the jetty.. Some people just don't know, and a nice little chat makes all the difference, no need for the abuse some people have..

another bad thing is when people get to the ramp to back in and then take 10mins to put there Bimini up and carry over stuff from the car.. Another nice chat to them so they know and all is good, never understand the abuse.. But some people need it lol

Hi Troy, I wa wondering when

Tue, 2013-04-02 15:12

Hi Troy, I wa wondering when somebody was going to as that question; always 2 sides to every story and there is a reason for everything ....

Short answer, yes the boat was at the end of the jetty.

Longer answer, yes the boat was at the end of the jetty but that needs to be understood in context: we had just come alongside the jetty and there was another boat ahead awaiting trailering.

We do not waste time at the jetty taking down biminis etc - that is all done once retrieved and in  the carpark.

After alighting from my boat and gettign my car I was ready to reverse the trailer onto the ramp with the guy who was infront of me having just moved on. ( as I said this all took approx 2 minutes) .  I am well aware of my youngster holding the boat on his own and I do proceed with haste.

My boat weighs 1.6ton and is not easily manouvered by my son on his own.

So OverDill had about 2-3 minutes of patience to exercise whilst waiting for a berth alongside the jetty.  Conditions were calm, only he wasnt.

I have learned soemthing from this exercise:  I will be doubly sure to help the next guy out in preference to abusing him when I can ( tools of all manner excluded)

What I dont understand is

Tue, 2013-04-02 14:38

What I don't understand is that on a beautiful day, like most days are when you take the boat out, Why anyone would get that upset over a little wait. We are all out there to enjoy ourselves and getting angry at anything just ruins the day.

As for abusing kids what sort of Psycho does that!!!

In the end just enjoy the day and leave the temper at home.

Had a sililar thing about 3

Tue, 2013-04-02 15:43

Had a sililar thing about 3 weeks ago came to tether the boat at the ramp and there was a boat at the end of the floating pontoon being held by a young girl I did a couple of lapse and then proceeded in and asked my deckie to jump off and ask the girl to move the boat in and at the same time I heard him ask her if she would like a hand being she was quite small and problem solved there are always different ways to approach things

Almost the same last week at the leuwin ramp, young guy holding onto the boat, was busy and a few people were making crap comments. My deckies took the handling ropes and helped with the retrieve. Easy as job done and no need for agro or bad manners .

Sorry to hear of your

Tue, 2013-04-02 16:28

Sorry to hear of your experience unhurry. Unfortunantly ramp/boating rage reflects the same thing we see on the roads with road rage. Think alot of boaties could do well to watch that ad on TV at the moment about 'Slow down and enjoy the ride'.

I have had similar situations where i have taken my missus out with me and i berth up to a jetty at a ramp and there may be another noat retieving infront. And so i leave my missus with my boat at the end of the jetty to go and get my car. Obvisouly by the time you get back the other boat might sometimes be gone now, but there is my missus standing with the boat still at the end of the jetty not knowing what to do(early days, she is now well rehearsed to move it forward when the boat infront has been pulled out). Same with when i sometimes take some inexperienced deckies out with me, even if i explain to them to move it forward. Had a big incident once with a Yacht at a boat ramp. Was a real big man muttering abuse at my missus, until i got back down to the ramp, then he started backing down telling me its all a misunderstanding. Riiiiiiight.

Hopefully it hasnt put your young fella off boating or his confidence to hold the boat on his own while you get your car and trailer.

Wed, 2013-04-17 11:35

Hi Guys i totally agree with every said and also agree that we all need to vent, the thing that concerns me is that if this bloke is a member of the forum we are just helping his rage by talikng about it. Why not name and shame and then let their conscience talk to them and hopefully they man up and apoligise.

Sorry for the long winded response I have a question. Where so u leave ur boat when out by ur self. 1 At the end of the jetty or 2 in the middle if space allows for this. I understand that here in albany this is not so much of a prob but up in the big smoke this can be a serious prob.

Any help will be grealty taken on board

abuse at the ramp

Wed, 2013-04-17 18:45

abuse at the ramp is unacceptable , best 1 I ever saw was at the Dampier public ramp I had just pulled up on the left hand side of the ramp ad it wasn't busy the bloke on the other side of the ramp had a beautifull 24 foot Bertram with a trailer hooked up to the latest and greatest cruiser I recognised him as my superintendent from work , he was going of his head at his wife as she struggled to pull the docking rope to line the boat up with the trailer I shouted to hang on a few minutes and we would help him , he told us to f... off and mind our own business at that his wife let go of the docking rope and the boat started driffing away hero superintendent dove in the water after his boat ,his wife walked camly down the gantry to his cruiser took the keys out of the cruiser and heaved them in to ocean . she then walked past us and said f... him . I had a high opinion of that guy at work but it changed for ever after that

Gero ramps

Wed, 2013-04-17 19:05

Havent really seen that sort of stuff up our way (yet!)

Last time we came in from the islands after Easter, large number of boats around.

Missus backed the trailer in, I jump on to drive on trailer-fkn oil alarm on one outboard

Quick check on dipstick ok, try to drive up on one, not enough puff. Next guy waiting comes along, need a hand mate?

Thanks-helps for a minute, plenty of smiles "cheers buddy want a cray or something?"  "na all good"

Up the ramp thinking "WTF with the port Suzi $$$$$$ after a long 5 day trip?"-

just the oil change reminder system-happy!

thanks mate whoever you were, hope our ramps stay that way...

Lone Retrieve

Wed, 2013-04-17 21:45

I leave my boat at the end of the jetty and accept that a boat or two may get in before me. I launch at Pt Peron and it has never really been an issue.

The main issue I have seen is when the boat owner dumps the boat in the water and then takes off leaving the boat with someone who does not know to move the boat back and tie it off. Not their fault but because people feel they have to rush to let the next guy in they don't think they have the time to sort the boat out before getting out of the lane.

As said before enjoy the beautiful day and relax

Fri, 2013-05-24 08:07

I was at that ramp Sunday but it wasn't me. I don't mind how long someone takes to get their boat out of the water and I always offer a hand if it looks like they could do with it. My pet hate is when you pull into the finger jetty and the boat that is in before you doesn't get pulled forward so other boats can't dock. Skippers should teach their deckies to move the boat forward. Still you can be polite about it when asking, no need to be rude.
