Pacemaker 21

Hi Guys

Can anyone give me info on Pacemaker hulsl 21 Half cab looks very similar to Haines Hunter / Bertam hull i guess 20-21 Degree deadrise when where these built and by who? I have found one that could be a good restorer as my hands are getting itchy for more Glass work and plenty of custom mods and i also came across the moulds but dont think i have the space and time to build from scratch. Any help would be good

                                     cheers Nico

Looks like a variant of the Pacemaker 210 Offshore.

Great Ride, very solid, nice & dry.

Classic WA made hull - my grandfather had a "Trendsetter 175" in the early 70's

I was actually looking at one before I found my boat (Chivers), which essentially uses the same hull (Chivers bought the Pacemaker moulds and modernised / enhanced it).

I got plenty of pics while I was doing my pre-buy "research" :

(I was seriously looking at the one with the dark blue canopy)

The red one is the shorter "Ranger"

From my experience assuming the hull is structurally sound you would do well to break one.

When they were first kicking off I think Ron Calais [the Frenchman] had the moulds for a while then sold them to Peter Blowfield [both were situated in Bunbury] and who had them next I have no idea.

Pacemaker

Fri, 2011-07-22 06:53

Pacemaker moulds were indeed held and used by Peter Blowfield who later sold them to one of his workers then the moulds ended up in the hands of a dealer in Mandurah, not sure who, but the moulds may have been renamed.

Very good hull the 20 footer inboard, absolute unreal ride but very hard to find one these days.

21 Offshore

21 offshore are a nice boat that's for sure and as a matter of fact seen one at a back yard boat mechanics place, in Bunbury yesterday with a pod fitted, certainly looked the goods.

"Water Rat" came to mind.

Hey nico

Was thinking about  this after you told me yesterday, have you considered the frasers? They are bloody good design and as others have said the chviers are great. Been out in 25ft Safari I think it was... tough as nails.

One thing I always wonder

Fri, 2011-07-22 11:22

One thing I always wonder though ... how much work before you decided you might as well give up and get a mould? It might cost you some more in materials, but grinding is messy work and you end up after it all with an old hull.

My experience was splitting off the top mould, cutting out the seats, anchor well, floor and transom out of one boat. We didn;t need to replace the stringers as they were glass anyway. My brother did the rebuild and probably still has to finish the outside of the hull.

What length/style are you chasing? The Penguin Phantom and Huntriss moulds are laid up in Perth somewhere ;)

Yeah  i hear you i know where the moulds for the savage 24 are as well but the cost of completion is out of my price bracket at the moment unless i did the big budget build still got to find somewhere to build them and bla bla bla would be nice though just easier for now to restore only if it has the goods to start with. i was originaly going to bring some rigs from Cairns but forget that idea with the industry in quiet times better of putting the money in to realestate.

Moulds

Fri, 2011-07-22 12:03

Yep. I came accross the moulds for the 21 Pacemaker about 4 years ago in Bibra Lake. The guy had some affiliation with Chivers somehow.

The cost of builing up the 21 to a very basic level including a 3 or 4 year old 4 stroke would still come in around the $45,000 mark on a second hand trailer. You would still have a really old design thought. Even though the hull is great, the top decks are really dated.

I had a chat to Bell Fire (I think that is what they are called) a few years back. They also have the mould for the 21 Pacemaker but they made a centre console/centre cab out of it. The hull was made without any timber stringers so was quite a bit lighter that the originals, but completely rot free.

When you do all of the maths you are probably better off buying a late model second hand boat. At least you wont have as much trouble with resale.

Cheers

Brad

With the bigger boats, you're probably right. The smaller ones really have very little labour, glass and resin in them.

You can buy an 19' panga cc out of china for ~$3800US, but a 15' CC costs $11k here.

The top decks might be "dated", but,.. you have decent headroom in a functional cabin.

True that Bradz nothing wose than owning a no name boat not good on resale when you have 40 k invested takes a lot of time and boats to build a reputable brand been there before.

Wed, 2012-08-01 15:03

Top decks may look dated on the 210 Offshores, but I don't reckon they look bad my any means.

Still a tough looking and very practical layout.

IMO Chivers did a pretty good job remodelling them with the Eagle 2000 without stuffing up the layout, so I effectively got the pacie hull I was chasing with a slicker look - albeit very mid 90's !

And after a complete refurb :

Went and looked at the Pacey

Sat, 2011-07-23 11:53

Went and looked at the Pacey was a bit rough for my liking no major rot though. The stringers and gussets were  delaminated from the hull in areas in the v berth so i wonder what the rest of the stringers were like under the floor?Thing i did like is the stringer system is a top hat construction hull was a little light on in the laminate department for my liking the trany was solid. Trailer neede usual kill rust cold gal paint job though solid no brakes no major nav or safety gear either johno runs well except reverse gear issue . couldn't see any evidance of it falling off the trailer or major repair work so if it did only usual scrapage only one suspect spot midships for m some one's handy work all in all not a hard fix just nore coin.Made a offer probabally insulted him but did not see the value in the asking price and i would not exspect to hear back but you never know.

Thanks for all the info boys cheers Nico

The owner would take less than that  don't forget it would still cost 40k to build one though unless you know how to laminate and knowledge of lay up schedules.

I'd love to find one

Fri, 2011-07-29 20:22

I have the pacemaker 470 funrunner, only 16 foot but so much nicer in the water than my last boat, a 21 foot regent was.  If I could get my hands on the 21 foot version i'd be rapped.  Funnily enought the last photo, pirates reign, use to belong to Karl the dealer I brought my pacemaker off.
