Parker Point in an easterly

Howdy Folks,

Thinking about taking the boat to rotto for Friday night and having an early fish on saturday morning.

What is the lagoon like at parker in 20 knots of seabreeze that is swinging to 20 knots from the east?

Hi Paul Sounds like you are

Hi Paul

Sounds like you are making the most of the new boat! I've never stayed in Parker Point but imagine it might get lumpy in a 20 knot easterly. When there are strong easterlies we usually grab a mooring in Longreach or Geordie. The anchorage in Longreach is protected well from them.

Cheers

Dave

Yeah mate - nearly thrown 100

Yeah mate - nearly thrown 100 hours at it in 6 months.

Got the first gouge in it two weeks back thanks to a lazy cray pot offload. Thats why we didnt want a painted boat but so be it...still polishes up enough to read the number plate of the car across the road!

Looking at the wind Friday

Looking at the wind Friday night best just finding a spot on the North side, little Armstrong or the like, head west on first light.

There is a very shallow reef

There is a very shallow reef around most of the Parker Point anchorage, from memory if you tuck up into the SW corner I doubt any slop would reach you unless maybe a very high tide

Green Island

Hey mate Green Island would give you shelter in both these winds and you would likely be there by yourself. Parker can be pretty open if the Easterly comes up strong over night.

 I clearly remember my first

I clearly remember my first night on my own boat at Rotto. At least as clearly as possible given the booze consumption! We had a glass off and I just sat there thinking that life was bloody good! Hope it turns out well mate.

Made it to the tip of GI to

Sat, 2023-12-16 15:23

Made it to the tip of GI to pull the pots then had the sea breeze up the clacker to Rotto, arriving just before lunchtime. Quick ice cream at Simmo's then around to Longreach to observe the carpark in that bay. Wow wee that was packed! as was Geordie! Quick swim before rock hopping our way along the north side of the island before packing in Catherine Bay for the night with 4 other boats.

Once the sun was up, we headed over to Stark for bacon and eggs and at west end to catch the end of the easterly.....but we didnt catch the end of it.

Southerly was in at 9 and there was still left over slop. Tried 4 or 5 spots in the 40's that were showing fish but got picked to death. Got a skippy before the captain (Claire) decided that the conditions were too shit (it was pretty off) so we charged in (at 14 knots) the 10 or so miles to the tip of GI to pull and move the pots.

3 sharks yesterday and no crays.

Today 1 cray, 1 shark and one blue ring.

WE have had the boat around rotto twice in the last two weeks so time to have a couple of short runs because of course the AC decided to shit itself on Thursday night....
