What's the purpose of the inspection hole?

Will the hull be refilled with resin/foam?

Inspection hole

Wed, 2012-09-12 09:32

is purely piece of mind because there is no other way to find out if there is water getting under the floor when the boat is in the water.( safety ) If I find there is I can drop A pump in the hole to pump the water out and reduse the weight in the boat.Safely get home to inspect it when its on the trailer. As far as resin or foam,in two minds about that, foam will holed moister so I dont want it damp under the floor (condensation )there is breather holes in between the conpartments so they can dry out.Personal I think foam was introduced to boat making to reduce the weight of the boat & reenforce the glass in the process because they used less of it . "floatation" Maybe ! I have seen the thickness on some of these New Boats , Tissue paper . I had a freind that had a 47 ft key west (old ) we had to put a skin fitting through the hull ,it was about 2 inches thick of solid glass & resin.

Keep the photos coming

Hi mate, love the photos,  keep them coming.

I have done the same thing as you recently, and the mess and bare boat looks familiar.

I filled my hull with closed cell foam before I put the floor back.

What was wrong with the floor?

It was rotten wet .Dont like

It was rotten wet .Dont like foam as i think it will hole the moisture too much"Condensation" I  have breather holes between the conpartments.1/4 hole.I think foam was invented into boat building so they can put less glass & reduce the weight of the boat and call it " for safty reason "!.I have seen the thickness of some of the New Boats "tissue Paper ".Give me thick glass the thicker the better. They build Big ships with air tight compartments not foam filled ones ,Just food for thought .
