Yes this is true as we put pots in and 1 of them has been taken already, I think it is down right rude of people to just take shit.

cray pot theft

Sat, 2018-12-29 15:01

Same has happened to me in the north garden island area. Its not rude its theft. It cost  $550 to replace the pots not including time to put numbers on floats, put colour coding on floats, tie up the ropes, bait and fuel  to place pots and then to pull. Fisheries do their best but cant be every where. You can see these scumbags at the ramp. Usual indicators are an old beat up worthless  tinny, no fishing or diving gear just going out for the fresh air. Big burley fellows covered in tatts with a goatee beard and rat tail hair do. What these pricks need is jail time as the ycant afford a fine and dont work.

years ago in the 80s before

years ago in the 80s before gps was common , I used to put an old landrover axle + hub on a rope with my gear id on it ……. set it up to look exactly like a cray pot float rigg so no one in theory would touch it lol

it was to act as a general marker across a patch of good ground about 300 metres in area , we used it as our control , never pulled it once set , and it gave us a bearing when we played chess and moved our other 4 pots in the may/june period , when it was to dirty to see the bottom and set that way as we where in only 6 metres during the winter months mostly

one time a pro boat picked up the float and rope in his prop ……when he came in to bomb the same area with his pots ..I knew him and had been out on his boat several time s... he and his deckie back then had a devils own job getting the rope and axle etc of his shaft …...as he had it wrapped up there tight as … let me know about too lol
