Downsize!!!

Why not try a home made mini-popper. I did one up using a golf tee and the inside of a silstar jigem rig squid lure. I fashioned the inside sleeve into a skirt and it fitted nicely over the tee head. Simply cut off the tee spike and drill a hole through, then thread a long shank hook through and place a small ball sinker at the front then drag it behind a float as a mini popper. Give it a try and let us know how you go.

I will post a pic in this link when I get a chance.

Cheers

The little River2sea bubble Pop 45 is perfect for the job, cheap too!

Did you try the wire cage lure SPESS?

Thu, 2007-07-05 15:59

I was going to maybe get a vid together for the site, showing how many different things we can catch a herring on. Would be a good laugh just mucking about trying all sorts or weird and wonderful things.

Care to join me SPESS, assuming you have an innovative mind and can come up with 10 or so different home made lures and would like to feature in the minivid and even a possible fishing article?

We might need some of your special burley to get em firing first though.

Cheers

Big W

Thu, 2007-07-05 16:10

Check out the Berkley poppers in Big W under $5 each, I got a few from there for the Murry cod we fish for and they managed about 25 in 1 day biggest went about 3 kilo's , also used then off the rocks and got a few herring on them as well , my son loves flicking them out on his drop shot and has a ball with them .

I have also made a shit load on my lathe from about 20mm up to 300mm monsters , just waiting for the right weather to get out and try them out , having a lathe really gets your creative side working , shaping lures with different faces, length and width is fantastic and then using different woods so they weigh and float differently certainly makes for some fun , then there is painting diff colours etc WOW.

Bassday crystal poppers are

Thu, 2007-07-05 17:02

Bassday crystal poppers are awesome on herring, they are a transleucent body with silver flecks through-out. They are sinker popping but work a treat. Failing that River2sea Bubble pop 35's or Yozuri EBA poppers(just new out) have been working well.

Does any have a pic of the Bassday Crystal Popper?

Thu, 2007-07-05 17:11

It would be good to see how big it is!! Would you need a light 2-4kg bream rod to cast put these poppers or can a 5-8kg rod cast them out too?

Cheers.. Jangles
