Possession limits

Hi All........

Just a quick query about the new possession limits.....

I know your allowed 10kg of demersals and 10kg of pelagics but does that count for the group your with as a whole or can each liscence holder have that amount??

Also whats the go with babies in boats?.....ive got a 9 month old and we are planning a trip to camp on an island 12 kays off the coast......does she come in under an adults lifejacket or do they need their own special one?

The possession limit is per

The possession limit is per license holder, check but I think you may be required to leave the skin on if you camping on an island, then bringing the fillets to the main land.

Life jacket for a 9 month old, would be thinking twice. but the law is that the life jacket must be suited to the weight of the person intended to use it. check with one of the sponsors on site to see if they can help find one to suit the baby.

not quite correct

on shore you do not need a licence to have a possession limit, only to catch your own bag limit.

If you are LEGALLY staying ON an island you are considered to have landed your fish and hence can process as you please but if staying onboard its skin on, 30+ cm fillets only and 10+10 per licence but still within your daily bag limit.

Been thru it all with Fisheries with my fish seized then returned to me after some to and fro etc.

Also may depend on which zone your island is in i.e Abrolhos etc

You may also find that individual F.O'ers have a slightly different interpretation hence err on the side of caution is better.

Hey Rob, Do you know what

Tue, 2012-08-07 10:47

Hey Rob, Do you know what the deal is with staying overnight on a boat just off the main land, on mooring. Im assuming for two days your allowed two days bag of whole fish but then the third day can you fillet up the previous two days bag given your under 10kg and then catch one more days bag of whole fish. Im not sure what classifies as landing given your not on an island and your not leaving the boat.

Cheers

pretty much where my prob

pretty much where my prob came from.

yes I believe you can fillet after 1 day BUT you are NOT considered to have landed your fish unless you are legally and physically staying on land.

In your case I believe you can fillet but must leave skin on and be over 30cm fillets and if frozen then in a way so they can still be measured.

If you are on a charter boat then its a whole different set of rules.

Also depends (as said before) where you are talking about. Abrolhos is different to northern etc.

Best to speak to Fisheries though and make sure you get the name of who you have spoken to, cos there is other grey areas regarding dhu fish on longer trips.

Not sure where you are

Not sure where you are getting your info from??

There are no new posession limits, old ones are still in place.

Finfish possession limits
(FRMA S51, FRMR Part 4, Division 3)
A finfish possession limit is the maximum quantity of finfish –
either whole or in pieces – that you may have in your possession
(control/ownership) in WA. This is:
• 20 kg of fillets of fish; or
• 10 kg of fillets of fish and one day’s bag limit of whole fish
or fish trunks; or
• two days’ bag limit of whole fish or fish trunks.
! NOTE: These limits now apply throughout WA, including
permanent places of residence. The following baitfish are
not included in the finfish possession limit: hardyheads
(Atherinidae), sardines/pilchards (Clupeidae), whitebait
(Engraulidae), garfish (Hemirhamphidae) and mullet
(Mugilida). Commercially purchased fish are not included,
but you may be asked for proof of purchase.
Special rules apply in the Abrolhos Islands Fish Habitat
Protection Area (see marine conservation areas).
Some species may have a specific possession limit (see bag
and size limit tables).

your right Sulo, its still a proposal

Tue, 2012-08-07 13:42

Proposal 2 – State-wide finfish possession limits

•10 kg of fillets* or pieces of fish of any species (plus an additional 10kg of the ‘Large Pelagic’ category of fish^); or

• 7 kg of fillets or pieces of fish plus one day’s bag limit of whole fish; or

• Two days’ bag limit of whole fish.

* Fish heads, tails and ‘wings’ are not included in the fillet weight possession limit.

^ Fillets of any ‘Large Pelagic’ fish (as defined in the bag limits) would need to have skin-on for identification purposes.

this is what hes referring to

Hi Cortez,

You need to have a proper baby fitted version. Theres several weight sizes available, what does your 9 month old weigh?
