power pak recommendations.

 Good morning fishwreckers.

What are you guys using for your back up power paks?  I want one to keep in the diesel pajero and take on the boat.

Keen on the Kinchrome power pak plus - $318.  What do you reckon?

Cheers.

I run dual batteries in the

I run dual batteries in the patrol & used to in the boats as well so I don't do the power pack thing. I did go on the Kinchrome site & have a look at the pack you're looking at & think it could be ok but it really depends what you want to use it for. Check the batteries in your car & boat to see what size they are. If they are under 600cca you would probably be ok with that unit but if they are over, I don't think it will be suitable. Make sure you go by the numbers, not their written claims. They say that it will start a V8 diesel but going by the numbers, it wouldn't even start my TD42. If it's an option you have space for & would suit all your needs, I'd be going with a dual battery system with a momentary switch (temporarliy connects both batteries so you have power from both to start engine). Of course that won't work if you want it in multiple vehicles/boats but if it's for the boat only, it's definitely the option I'd be taking.

Kingchrome

I have got the Kingchrome and if you own a ranger you need one. Mine is a 3.2 diesel and the Kingchrome starts it easy. The pack comes with all sorts of plugs and seems really good quality.

With the poxy ranger if you leave the hazard lights on for a couple of hours the battery is flat. At a place I do a lot of work you have to have the hazards on when driving. On my previous vehicle you could leave the hazards on all day without a problem.
