Preston 5.8 sale value

 Hi All

I'm considering upgrading my 5.8 Preston Cuddy Cab and I'd like peoples opinions on what my boat might sell for if I decided to go ahead.

Hull motor and trailer are all about 15months old. Suzuki 150 still under 5 year warranty with service history, approx 90 hours. Hull has 10 year warranty.

This boat is in show room condition as I'm very particular with my boats. Its always been covered. For those not familiar with the Prestons the build quality is 1st class. They are built in Perth. The overall lenght is 6.2 I think so its a big boat for a 5.8. Preston have a very good reputation in WA.

  • Hull was built with upgraded deck and keel sheets
  • Anchor winch
  • Folding shade
  • Fresh water tank with pump
  • Under floor kill tank
  • Removable piping floor mat. Makes it easy to clean
  • 200l fuel
  • Hydraulic steering
  • Simrad GO7
  • Dual batteries
  • Finished in Nyalic
  • Under floor floatation

The boat is in Dampier but transport south from here is cheap because its easy to get a backload.

You'd have to be at least looking at 35-40k

It's a nice looking bit of kit

Just a comment as mine has recently cracked on me, your trailer winch stem looks very light on for that sized rig. Mine has an additional gusset on a forward angle but has still cracked. In getting repair at the moment.

Nice boat

wouldn't be the first trailer that could do with an easy mod to reinforce the post

My pet hate is safety chains that go to winch post and not down to the trailer beam (a $10, 10 minute mod) - beats me why trailer manufacterers dont do this as standard

I recon its worth close to 60k but Unfortunatly the way the market is more realistically high 40s may push into the 50s. If you can get the right buyer and not in a hurry to sell it.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I live about 1km from the Dampier harbour so I can't see the trailer being a problem for me but valid points anyway.

I was hoping to get $50k, any less and I can't really jusify the upgrade. I didn't want to mention this in the original post because I want honest opinions without influencing peoples thoughts.

I guess I could always advertise it and see how it goes but that means putting up with all the usual tyre kickers though.

Looks like a good rig.

You have all the good gear on it, low hours, and they are apparently a good hull. The only thing I would see going against it on the Perth market would be the lack of paint--looks like a clear finish applied? Personally, I prefer the clear, but a lot of the market will want a really flash paint job,( fashion-conscious w*nkers) and I think this alone might keep it below the 50K mark for a 5.8 m boat.

Good luck with the sale.

 Yes its finished in clear

Yes its finished in clear Nyalic. Paint is for builders that want to hide their workmanship.

The problem with paint on aluminium boats is corrosion. Eventually you always get corrosion around fittings and fastners and it creeps under the paint. With Nyalic you can just sand out any corrosion or damage and wipe on a new coat of Nyalic with a cloth. This is my second boat finished in Nyalic and I wouldn't have anything else. Most people say it looks good, probably because its a bit different. But yes I'm sure you're right that a lot of people only see the bling paint job not the problems that come with it.

Very nice looking boat - I totally agree about the paint. I have a painted plate aluminium boat, and I wish I was bare. Not only is it easier to maintain, I reckon they look tougher, and much cooler.

Ithink it is a good buy for 50k but the market up there is tough, Perth would be the place to sell it    cheers Ace

Absolutely correct on the paint

Bling only, no preservative value. In fact, boat builders will fill with bog to smooth under paint--you can't get away with that on a clear fininsh.
