Problem with my GPS
Submitted by kdawson on Sun, 2008-08-31 20:09
Hi guys I have recently been having a problem with my Lowrance LMS 525c-df GPS/Fishfinder combo. It was working fine up until a couple of weeks ago where for some reason when i would turn it on a warning sign would come up saying "GPS module not responding." I have checked all the wiring between the GPS antenna and the actual unit about 100 times and i can not find any problems with it. Any help with this problem or any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Aerial
Heard of a few people having trouble with the GPS Aerial dying on the Lowrance units.
Do you know anyone that has the same aerial that you could try?

Power Leads
You've probably already checked this but I know with my Lowrance there are two sets of power leads...one for the unit itself and one for the aerial. If these aren't properly connected the "GPS Module Not Responding" message comes up.

I dont know of anyone with
I dont know of anyone with the same aerial as me all i know is that milsey has pretty much the same unit as me but his has an inbuilt antenna.
The thing is i have only had my GPS for less than 5 months so i wouldnt think it needs a service yet.
Ive also checked all the leads underneath, unplugged all of them, almost tried everything and it doesnt seem to help at all. Another thing, when i was over at rotto 2 weeks ago was when the problem first started and it would be on and off, sometimes the antenna would be working and at completely other random times it just stops working. Now its stopped alltogether. And yer my aerial is the little dome one. Thanks heaps for your help.

mounted
yeah i know the dome,s quintrex had a problem when they mounted them on the inside of the window/ i got mine changed to out the front worked great,
also you do get faulty domes, (antenna) something do do with cheaper parts being used inside them, and i heard that from the guys at millards.. i had one replaced..
something worth checking out mate..go to a shop and try using another dome antenna,
you,ll know in seconds..good luck

My Lowrance 4000M has just
My Lowrance 4000M has just started doing the same thing. Had a good look, played with the wires and got it working again. Looks to be the antenna. I think it's time to get a new unit. My unit is only 4 years old but has done it's job. Time to get a colour unit.
If it's only 5 months old send it back to lowrance and get them to check it out. It should be all under warranty.

My Lowrance LMS 525 df is 18
My Lowrance LMS 525 df is 18 months old, worked fine for 14 months and now "Module not responding" also comes on intermittantly. I turn the set off, leave it for a couple of hours and sometimes it starts working again. The sounder part works all the time. Lowrance website has "information" if you can understand it, but it appears to be a very large problem judging by the many comments on the net. I don't know why I bought another Lowrance unit, I had 2 LMS 350's replaced by Lowrance and then after warranty ran out they refused to replace or fix it. All I can suggest is clean all contacts including the switches and power feeds on the boat. I have just done this and I haven't had the message again "YET". The little T junction box with the 60 ohm resistor I also pulled apart and sprayed with CRC and let dry then reassembled. Hope this helps. I bought mine in the States and they don't warranty them in Australia, I have to mail it back.
Hope this helps....
