Professional Video Editing Software?
Submitted by jay_burgess on Sat, 2009-06-06 12:25
Well I've got a HD video camera on the way and I'm planning on taking it to Bugatti and getting a whole lot of footage with it. I'd like to edit it and make a DVD out of it and I was wondering if anyone here is in the business and could recommend some good software because I don't think windows movie maker cuts it when it comes to this sort of stuff. Also any tips for the editing/filming would be great.

At the top of the cost range
At the top of the cost range is Adobe Premier and Avid Liquid. Avid also have Pinnacle who do a good cheaper package. I have Ulead VideoStudio and it still has a lot of features for a pretty good price. It does hidef and can burn to dvd etc.

I agree with Bear
Adobe are specialists in this field, well, one of them at least. Corel also make great (expensive) software. I have Adobe Premier here. It's not cheap software mind you but if you plan on doing a lot of this then it's worth the investment. Adobe also provide pleny of training videos etc, as do Corel.

Many of the cameras come
Many of the cameras come with their own software of sorts.
What I want is easy software to use. Something without the fluff, drop and drag features.
With HD you will need hardrive space more than anything and probably a decent amount of RAM to carry the editing cache.

Corel Products
Follow the link below. I have Paintshop Pro Photo X2 and it's fantastic for stills and creating all sorts of images. Perhaps you should consider the bundle package with DVD/Video and the photo software as well. You'll never need to install another graphics package again. This software is quite cheap when compared to the Adobe collection.
Sure, some of the software that comes with the burners these days (Ulead etc) is quite handy but I do find it's somewhat limited at times and doesn't have the support base and training provided with Corel products. I guess it's a matter of what you pay for is what you get.

Sony
G'day Jay
I use (am learning now) Sony Vegas Pro 8. This is a top of the line program and does lots - the manual is 800 pages! Will probably only use 10% of it. You do need other programs to generate better titles and graphics - again I'm learning this myself now.
I went the Sony path because I film in HD too. As said, you need big storage and processing power. I just did a 1hr clip recently, which took 8 hours to render.
Pm me if you decide to go down the Sony path. If so, I can help you out.
Cheers Pete
