Project 17ft Plate CC

Upgrade time has come along. Bought a Custom plate 17ft Centre cosole and after a few sunny days its time to get into gear and get it ready for the upcoming summer. Winter Project time is here.

The to do list:

New wiring throughout

New auto bildge pump

Move battery up to uner the console (hopefully)

Custom fold down T top with windscreen (any design ideas/photos would be appreciated)

Mount up new Engine

Re-do hydraulic steering

Make a fuel guage for the new 80l tank

Build a new trailer with brakes

Get a fishfinder

Modify baitboard to fit over engine well

If you have any ideas for things which would go well let me know so I can try to fit them in.

Also any advice on how to check the floatation? the deck is welded on, and where it removes for the fuel tank I cant see any foam under the deck, and as it is a 2004 it was built just prior to the builders plate getting standardised so I am not sure how much flotation it has under the deck. I dont really want to take it to the ramp and fill it up with water.

Lets see what I can get done in the next 2 weeks!

Too much in hindsight

I got it for 10, the hull is the gem, I moved the motor on for 2 pretty quick, it ran pretty well after we cleaned the gunk out of the carby. The trailer is licenced but I wouldnt wanna take it very far. I saw recently the guy I got it off was trying to sell some ex sea rescue jet boat for a bit over 100k. It will be good once its been fixed up. It was doing 25 knots with the old 40 suzi on it.

As far as floatation goes

Mon, 2013-08-26 12:07

As far as floatation goes foam won't help with that - foam is put in only to add floatation once its full of water - That is it displaces the water in the given space (hull) with something that traps air (floats) - not sure they would put foam in an ally boat as I may aid corrosion??

If it helps your confidence my step father just launched a 68ft steel hull yacht. It weighs 51 tonne has no foam or floatation but still floats. (if it fills with water I'd expect it would sink rather quickly though).

has the black strips of foam under the floor. will not go under if the deck fills up, all pressure tested. think its fairly common now days.

The fella I got it off

Mon, 2013-08-26 17:27

The fella I got it off reckons he built it in 2004 off some plans that him and Dave jackman came up with to make boats which require less hp to achieve reasonablespeed and therefore less fuel cconsumption. I don't know how historically correct, butiit had an old 40hp 2st Suzie on it and it was getting 25 knots and was cutting pretty well through the chop to

that transom

Mon, 2013-08-26 17:41

that transom set up will be perfect for diving if you do dive but put a decent ladder on it the amount of blokes I have seen with dive boats with painfully small boarding ladders is to many a nice deep ladder with decent steps is the go

 Thanks Pete, I will look

Thanks Pete, I will look into a new ladder, I really like how the boat continues past the motor mount, I am doing my dive course in a couple months when work quiets down, so I will look into a better ladder.
