Noticed this on the net "Boats on line" Baron Sportsman $5000.
http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats.php?de=52159.
By a dealer? must have plenty of work to be done on it.

not bad value! wpuld check
not bad value!
wpuld check the hull and get a mech check on the engine, but still with a trailer and all, it would be a good project.

yeah nice boats ...good project...all be it the hull is sound....i wonder what a near new donk fitted would cost hmmm...would certainly get you out there...not for me though too many unfinished projects on the go already...hinders my fishing time

you could recon that motor
you could recon that motor and leg for under $6k, so all up if everything else is good, you'd be on the water for under $12k.
Then again if you did a pod mod and a good second hand 4 stroke motor for $8k, then just as fine.

Looking at the photos
Looking at the photos, another trailer needed s/h or new.
At that price it probably has a soft floor and rotten transom. On that note there are some of you just iching (fiber glass work) to rip up the floor and carry out strengthening mods (are you listening Till). Pod on the back and a reliable outboard.
New fuel system including the tank. Probably all the electrics to be re-done. Steering, that will probably be a cross between a kangaroo and a Teddy bear (Roo-Ted).
It tends to add up quick, especilly the small bits and consumables. I would say it could be a good project for someone who has the facilities and the time.
Cant imagine a dealer letting it go at that price if there wasn't something major that needs to be done.

Just had a look at "Baron Rebuild"
Just had a look at "Baron Rebuild", lots of projects on there. Will go back and read to night.
How about an up-date on all the projects, and photo's.
I brought my Baron for $8500, hull good, motor good, all else incl. the trailer suspect. Have spent $5000 so far, sea worthy, but not purrrrfect.
Have to do up the trailer so I can get a survey done for insurance. Have to have insurance to be a member of the club etc etc.
Ive kept a leger of my spending, its scary. And there is much more i'd like to do, maybe just dream
Any way back out to work on the trailer.

I bought a roughy Baron
I bought a roughy Baron powered by a 80 Merc for $1500. Gave it a quick tidy and got it running and flogged for $3000. Still a good buy at that.

looks ok in the pics but i
looks ok in the pics but i would be giving it a good going over, hull and motor along with the gear box and leg. believe it or not the gear box and leg are more expencive than the motor if needed to replace

perfect project
the rig looks reasonable , have a good look at what needs doing to the trailer, renew canopy , my preference would be to rip out the stern drive , glass up the transom and put a pod on and pcik up a 115 or 130 hp motor, this will create a heap of space inside and you will end up with a serious blue water boat

135 HP on Ebay
I don't know if this will interest anyone ,but there is a 135hp Johnson up for auction here in Perth. Zero bids starting at $200. only one day to go though. Would sit well on the back of the Baron.
