Proposed Geographe Bay closure...draft map

See below...the large green area is the proposed sanctuary zone in Geo Bay. It's about as big as the metro area. The area to be closed off is also where the artificial reefs to enhance angling were set to go, so that plan could be scuttled as well if this goes through.

How would they police an area like that? By the looks of that i am going to lose quite a few marks.

When was this revised? Will the public get to have their say again on this new proposal?
Didn't mind the last proposal but this has gone too far.
Locking out half of the bay means the other half will have twice as much pressure on it. Can't see how that helps.
Good luck trying to stop locals fishing that area.

3 nautical miles is where Commonwealth waters start. However, one would think pressure would be brought onto the state government to match any of these closures in the future.

Tony Burke Has Lost The Plot
If this is his revised plan it shows how little he knows about Geo. Bay. If you want to increase shark numbers and the potential for shark attacks you would put in a sanctuary zones where every thing is protected including the GWS.Then you start to realise the lunacy at what is proposed bearing in mind the holiday Resorts from Bunkers back to Siesta Park whose patrons would like to swim and surf in the ocean without the increased risk of ending up on the sharks dinner plate. God help us if this goes ahead.

You might be interested to attend the Fishwrecked South West meeting at Occy's brewery on the 19/11 in the afternoon - I think it is still on and I am sure members will correct me if I am wrong. See what they think and give it front page for the next year, Troy Buswell might even listen and do some lobbying.
