PURCHASING A NEW SOUNDER

**I'm new to this forum/site, so not sure if this is the best place for this post, if not please let me know.**

I am looking to purchase a new sounder for our boat, the model I'm looking at is a Furuno 295, I have quoted by Taylor Marine $4950.00 and have been told it would be best to run dual transducers at an additional cost of $1100.00.

So I have a few questions to ask:

What are the pro's and con's of purchasing a unit from the US as there seems to be a bit of saving to be made.

Does anybody know roughly the cost of a wet box set up and if it's possible in a Caribbean Reef Runner and if yes does anyone know where you can get this done in Perth.

Has anyone experienced transom mount transducers for this unit as I've been told I need to get special brackets made up for this purpose.  If yes, can you give any guidance on cost and where to get it done in Perth.

Also if anyone has any opinion/advice on a transom mount versus a wet box for this unit I'd love to hear from you.

Appreciate any time spent in answering my above questions.

Furuno FCV 295

Hi Dirt

 I'm running a FCV 295 with a Airmar R199 2Kw wet box trannie.

It is an awsome piece of gear.  Out wide last weekend in 260m and its bottom definition is fantastic at 6knts. (good bottom lock too!)

I imported mine from Bonzer Imports. Give David a call (google it), nice bloke.

I saved 2-3k on total costs.  PM me for more info.

You'll need to do it before the weekend, as we're steaming to Exmouth for a month (including Gamex), back mid April.

 Cheers

 Phil

Buy local, with electronics, getting the right transducer, having the right setup and the back-up is the incentive to pay extra for local!

Wetbox, see Clarky from Northshore boats in Henderson, he does a great job on anything F/G. He's done a few Furuno's 1150 & 295 i think so having the wetbox mould already can get the price down....call him/top bloke. The thickness of your hull should be fine to wetbox it, he can tell you and thats always my pref before wetface transom mount!

i agree with bying local, but im in a bit of a pickle ive only got so much money to spend and i really want the furuno 295.there is nearly $1800 to be saved on the unit alone if i buy local i would probably have to settle for the furuno 585
