Question for the brains trust

 Ok here's the scenario....

Son wants to head out into the sound with his mates and catch some Herring and Whiting, they plan to hit the back of Garden island and cook up that potential feed.

Any non legalities with that?

I didn't think so but trying google a question like that is a mission.

Cheers

what's the question?

what are you concerned about? there are a few legalities but not sure which youre asking about.

if the boat is under 4.8m there are new rules in play, they will need their fishing from boat licenses, in terms of access to the island just google "garden island fishing and aquatic association" and use their maps and guides to show you where you can and cant access the island.

cheers,

Jason.

The question is they want to

The question is they want to catch a feed and then cook it up at the back of garden island.

Would fisheries have a problem with that? My take is once it's landed it's in your possession and can do what you like with it, as long as legal etc

  Seakem, like all things fun

Seakem, like all things fun we have restrictions in WA

  1. Lighting fires and portable BBQ use is prohibited (free gas BBQ’s are located at each picnic area)

Visitors Information – Garden Island Fishing & Aquatic Association (Inc.) (gifaa.com.au)

I'd recommend cooking on the boat...

GI

there is no issue with landing and cooking daily or trip limits of fish. there is no issue with filleting/processing/preparing fish before its immediate consumption.

I have personally been told off for having a gas cooker on a table on the beach at GI. the ranger was cool about it and was just doing his job. he told me to put the table legs just in the water (about ankle deep), then its technically not on the beach anymore, and we both happily continued on our merry day. I did end up shitfaced cunted drunk that day though.

Andy - we used to regularly

Andy - we regularly cook stuff at the beach at GI. I simplly had the cooker on the boat, with the boat near beached. A few times with the centre console - i stood in ankle deep water and cooked on the bow.

There are BBQ's in Pig Trough, Herring and Bucannin (not sure on spelling) but the gas supply is hit and miss so our gas fry pan lives in the boat.

The sand dune at the northern end of the island will offer nice protection tomorrow once the breeze comes in - we may well see him there.

A bit late Andy but I'm a GIFAA member and have spent plenty of time at Herring Bay. We have tables that always sit in the water to get around the rules. The ranger will come down near sunset to make sure everyone is off the island. Every year there are shitfaced people on the beach at night who seem to get away with it.

 Lol thanks Dave and all

Lol thanks Dave and all good. The boys had a good day out but didn't actually make it to the island , the seabreeze came in fairly and they were only in a small runabout.

It's ggod to see them getting out and about as the three of them are studying to be electrical engineers and had just finished exams. They are nerds but lads as well lol
