Quick Gnaraloo report 2024
Well it's once again just like a dream now, the anticipation and build up all gone like tears in the rain :P
Was certainly a different trip with the wind blowing up the first 3 days and a lot of sitting around, bullshitting and drinking.
That said there's nothing like wallowing in the bay with a beer in hand and 8 scantily clad lasses in their G string bikinis close by makes you kinda forget your not out on the briney trying to slay fish.
The bite itself once we did get out was very slow when the tidal almanac said it was meant to be a peak midday bite....BS
Anyway we fed the sharks well on a diet of bottom meats and jigs, a lot of them out there now with some nice jewelry.
Many spots and depths were tried even my sacred spot in 100m produced one Goldband before being smashed with sharks, I lost one particular fish I reckon was no doubt a stonker red about a 3rd of the way up and was ready to throw my rod overboard in utter frustration. That particular spot has produced heaps of fish in the past so it consolidated my theory on the bite time being off.
Thankfully the next day we tried more north of the bay out in 60m and finally came accross some big bommies which held good fish, each drift producing something good.
The Coronation when hooked darted for his hidey hole and nearly bricked me before I gave him/her/they/them plenty of slack and it poked it's head out finally and got him/her/they/them upwith high fives all round.
The Estuary I took for a shark and was pissed off for a bit before somthing twigged it wasn't and first sighting of colour had me yelling spittle for the net, it went 13.4kg nice stocking filler that one.
My PB Cobia at 16.1kg was pretty stoked with that. The Cobia actually saved our bag for the trip, there were plenty about although we did get Some good Rankin, big Redthroat and Spangled.
The Mackies were good on the troll as well as a nice Yellowfin where we had excellent Sashimi one night.
Last troll of the trip saw us hook up to a Billfish in 30m just out of the bay, my son saw it jump but couldn't make it species wise. I did see it thrash about on the surface before it knifed through the leader FFS
Plenty of good laughs, banter at the filleting shed and a great steak night with a bottle of Grange put the icing on the cake.
Will be back for more punishment next year
