quick report
Evening all
Managed to get out today, meeting up with forum member at point peron and heading to the back of the 5 for a sniff around.
With Daryl on board, pleasantries and lies exchanged we set off for some fresh squid and a few yellowtail for the Arvos fishing. The squid were thick and it looked like the fishing gods were on our side, but we all w better than that!
Arrive at the back of the 5 and have a few drifts, and find a nice lump to set some burley going. ( the old bloke managed to lose all my marks.... a couple of nice skippy to start and the usual plague of wrasse had us entertained for a while until the soft plastic I had lurking out the back went hell for leather. Buggered if I know what it was...sambo? caught plenty of pinkies over the years and the way this think went m sure I had a steamtrain with epilepsy!
Anyways long story short I was bricked and left a bit intrigued, so on went a livie on the duke gear.....same result. 80lb braid onto 80lb fluorocarbon and this thing was just playing games.
one more try... Drifted a fresh squid out the back and another run, this time for old mate but it was dropped.
Things died off pretty quickly after his mayhem....thank bloody god my back is killing!
Managed one keeper snapper grew 3 small ones back and stopped in for a few whiting and some eating squid on the way back to the ramp.
Anyone have any ideas what I was getting pummelled by? Tactics?
fresh squid and whiting for tea:)

Have to be big sambos to
Have to be big sambos to smoke you on 80lb on the 5 surely?
Would have been fun!
Mind giving some hints on where you got the squid? This in the sound?
I couldn't get a sniff from them the other day!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

wire trace has been added to the tackle box for the next attempt....cheers guys, didn't even consider mr mackerel. time to raid the pilbara tackle box. Noticed he odd bait ball out at the 40s last week, excuse the ignorance but are the Pelagics still around or with this snot weather turning up are they heading back up the coast?

Still Mack's around but
Still Mack's around but starting to thin out a bit, could possibly be a sharks? I've caught pleanty up to 2m on SP and they know how to play dirty. Would not be uncommon to find Big sambos there either tho. What Nic were the leaders in?

Interesting.... didn't
Interesting....
didn't have that high speed mack feel to the runs, but who knows.
another thing that made me think sambo or shark was I only lost one set of hooks. I got the rest of my gear back with the 300mm or so above the hooks well worn. Nicks and abrasions etc..
I'll grab the camera just incase whatever hey were show their face again

Ended up boating these from the same spot over the weekend, released 2 small dhu, and a heap of 25-30cm snapper.
Lost a couple more to big runs on live yellowtail, can't win em all!
Managed to have the solenoid for my motor trim shit itself out there though, made for interesting tri back being able to bring the motor up, but not down..fair bit of cavitation going on!
