Quick squid out from Woodies
Just dashed out with the only chance I had to get on the water for this weekend and nailed a few nice squid. Took my bro out and we had lines in the water for no longer than an hour and landed 21 good sized squid. Certainly the best consisent sizes I've had in any session this year.
The jig on the handline trailing a few meters behind the boat landed more squid than either of us working our rods surprisingly. Right at the end we had atleast 3 big squid under the boat but none of them were interested in any jigs. Had to go help out a boat who couldn't start their motor, a jump start with a bit of chop was certainly a bit sketchy but somehow they got it started after we took the lead OFF.
Always great to get out on the water and can't wait to taste the spoils of our labour!

Jame's squid a week and a bit ago
Weighed 1.6 kg by itself I think he said. That was after being de-inked, killed and into an ice slurry and then dryed off at home.
I think the hood on that one went 30/31cm or something.

31cm that sounds abit small
31cm that sounds abit small for a squid of that size. Brenz got one a while ago that was 1.1kg in wieght and the hood was 33cm if i remeber correctly. For a squid that big i would be thinking it would be pushing around the 36-37cm hood. Any nice squid for the wieght. Any pics?
Sound like it was a nice arvo on the water with a nice feed as a result. Well done mate. Seems like the squid are making the move back in, in big numbers and sizes.

Nice work!Sizes were awesome
Nice work!
Sizes were awesome today... headed out north of woodies point on the yak and got into them. Between me and Shorty, we got over 50 over a short session, all at least mid 20's hoods. Most were released, I only kept 6, Shorty maybe 10...
I wonder if they will be bigger again next time I head out?

Thats right Hazell it was an
Thats right Hazell it was an awesome session, the only trouble was we launched at 8 am and the wind was blowing its bum of a couple hours later making very unpleasant, we were competeing in a squid comp and thought we had a handy bag each but a couple on a tandem yak were pulling 30 cm plus to the hooders off Warnbro beach, ended up beating all the boats as well.
Its looking awesome leading up to the Calamari classic,, my favourite jigs have been Harmitsu in pink,,Yo zuri in green and the White shimano egixile but it sounds like everybody smashing them on they own favourites, picked up a couple Gancraft lures at the squid comp, looking forward to giving them a run shortly.
Handlines are fantastic to get a great feed of squid but rods are more fun i believe as you watch it bend

So you guys were out during the middle of the day Shorty and Hazell? Wind was pretty good late arvo, good speed for drifting.
Agree that rods are way more fun to catch squid on but we had limited time and wanted to get a good feed. We got waved over by a boat on our first drift and they asked us for a tow back in! Told them we'd just got out and would give them a tow after a few more drifts cos as nice as i am, i wasn't driving all the way there just to go spend my time towing someone in! Turned out we got them started with the jumper leads in the end so saved the time towing!

I'll tow you behind the boat mate, you'll just have to duck from the flying squid jigs and dodge the ink!
