Barra blitz on the Fitz
Submitted by Dicko on Tue, 2011-05-17 14:34
As some may have known already, 3 FW members: Myself, Marky and Percula were off to Cone Bay for a week.
Well the weather turned sour and we called it off. Travelling 50km in 25kn+ Easterlies in 2 tinnies was suicide!!!
Instead, we camped 3 nights at Telegraph pool we we were treated to some HOT barra action.
We had 32 hookups which resulted in 19 landed fish. We kept a points tally, had beer-skulls for F-ups and great a fantastic time.
No meterey's, 3 in the 90's and only 5 under 80cm, boy these fish were FAT! All taken on lures, with trebles crushed!
The snag in the structurescan pic produced many of the big fish. The scoreboard was Marky-7, Dicko-6, Percula-6....Enjoy!

Awesome pics
Great fishing trip. But why is the drink holders empty on many of the shots????
The first Jumping barra looks very lightly hooked. Did it stay connected?

Great work guys, good to see a back up plan come together.

yes, well the Sonic-hub sure picked a winner for the pic, but since most of them were big girls and everything they did was magic...not a bad choice!!!!

Yep was an awesome session
Yep was an awesome session and probly one of the best. The decent wet season we had has certainly showed us that already with heaps of big fish landed and also hooked and dropped over a coupla days.
Honourable mentions go to Dicko for being an awesome nett jobs.. (Mr Net) & also Dave for landing his first barra and then topping it with several more and PB at 94cm....
Was great few days with good mates and a few beers/rums too... HDS10 and Structurre Scan is amazing and how clear it shows up barra on the screen...
Was good to see a fish and then have a hook up 3 secs later....
Also Dicko and Dave shitting themselves when getting upclose and personal with a sleepy croc on the bank... classic.
Bloody cold at night too.... Havent worn a jumper for a while till then...
No elusive metery's but although Dicko definantly hooked one that was a horse.... Big fish but unfortunantly didnt stay hooked after smoking Dicko...(little bit gay too on the elton john)
Plenty of skulls too... Dont know how I ended up with the most but??
All in all a good trip.

Just out of interest, and ignorrance
Where is Cone Bay and Telegraph Pool. Heard this latter one mentioned a few times, therefor i suspect it is sort off out there fishing wise. Telegraph Pool I suspect is down river from Fitzroy Crossing and from your discription must be pretty close to the sea. But at the end, I have ignoramous stamped on my head.

Cone Bay out from Derby,
Cone Bay out from Derby, Telegragh is between the highway and the river mouth, easily accesible unfortunately judging by the amount of caravans already along that part of the river.

yeah
Fantastic trip hey!
Was so much fun and we had a great time!
My biggest barra was 94cm - PB! Awesome awesome awesome! Just can't explain how much fun it was! Trolling along and then 90cms of muscle jumps out of brown water, just magic!
As soon as a fish was hooked and it wasn't mine, I grabbed the camera to try and get some shots! Thats why dicko is mr net haha cos he netted all the fish for us!
