Sorry if there are any mistakes, first time post !

Last week with the good weather, it was decided to travel to the Abrolhos Islands for a quick couple of days. The winds were predicted to be fairly low, and the swell was dropping from around 2.5mtrs.

So it was decicded to leave Saturday morning, and travel up the coastal road from Perth. It was an eventful early morning drive, with Skippy and friends all over the road, and a blown tyre just north of the Wedge turn off to cap off the trip north.

We pulled into the boat ramp at geraldton at 8am, and were met with light winds. The excitement was starting to build, with the anticipation of what lay ahead for the next couple of days. The trip was just over 50km with a 2.5mtr swell, and we reached the islands in around an hour and a half.

First stop was Wreck Point ( I think this was the name ), and pulled up along side a mother ship that catered to surfers, paddle boarders, jet skiers, fisherman, there seem to people coming and going everywhere. The swell was at around 3mtrs, with perfect barrels and long right handers over shallow coral ! These were perfect conditions for surfers !

At this point it was time to set the rods up, and start fishing. So out the back went two Halco laser pro's and two teasers !! This is where the fun began ! Withinn 50mtrs it was Spanish Mackeral after Spanish Mackeral !!

Most of the fish ranged from 6kg through to 12kg !

There were even plenty of Shark Mackeral !

After a couple of hours of fun, it was time to do a little jigging ! This trip was just getting better !!

First drop in 20 mtrs of water, Paul Green who I was fishing with was hooked up ! He pulled a beautiful 4 to 5kg Baldie and I raised what I assume to be a cod - but definitely had trouble identifying which type ( you guys can help me with that one ).

Beautiful cod - but also had a few lesions or growths on the flank, but overall in very good condition !

Over the next dozen drops, I caught and released over 8 different species, ranging fron southern species to northern species - this place is magic !

With a perfect day on the water coming to an end, it was decided to find a sheltered mooring to camp for the night and head off for a snorkel. The amount of coral around the Abrolhos has got to be seen to be believed - ( There were Plate coral and staghorn Coral ? Correct me if Im wrong on the last type of coral ) everywhere !

After a quick snorkel and a beer, I managed to send a chrome slice out to a little tuna - only to have a shark promptly devour the little morsel .

After all the excitement it was time to cook dinner, roll the swags out and kick back on the floor of greeny's boat.

In the morning we woke to dew all over us, and beautiful pink/purple skies of the sunrise that was preparing to start the day !

If I thought the previous day was a cracker, I was in for one hell of a surprise ! We fired up the barbie, cooked a few snags, packed the swags up and setup for a jigging session again !

We found a beautiful dropoff that went from 20mtrs down to 50mtrs, and the viz was around 20mtrs. First drop from myself and I was rewarded with a the most striking Dhuie, the colours were amazing !

This girl was too good too keep, so back down she went - That was pretty satisfying watching her swim back down !

Next drop was absolute mayhem, there were snapper everwhere ! These fish were in the 6-7kg range and with fish that came up , there were another dozen following. We even had Spanish mackeral schooling at the back of the boat, they seem to be in a world of their own ! We took turns releasing fish for the next hour !

On the last drop my jig was smashed, as I was only using light gear this was going to be a struggle ! Slowly the pinky made it's way to the surface, and only at the last ten metres did a huge shark manouvre in and spoil the day !

After this last fish it was decided to check the fuel and weather conditions, and we both decided to start the trip back to Geraldton ! It was hard leaving leaving fish biteing ! But it had to come to an end at some point ! Once again we had perfect conditions to start the long haul !

It was a quiet trip that, back to Gero ! Light winds and no swell ! Just endless time to recount the last couple of days ! It will take me weeks to get mind back into work mode !

The one person I would like to thank is Paul Green ( Greeny ), great boat, easy going attitude, and really professional towards his boating and fishing .

I hope you guys have enjoyed our little Abrolhos story, and can only highly recommend that everybody jump at the chance to head across !

The Islands and surrounding water are pristine, if we treat them with the respect they deserve - fish included ! It should stay that way forever !

I can guarantee one thing - after posting this story ! I'm starting to plan the next trip !
