Quintrex 4.75m bayhunter steering cable replacement

The steering cable on the quinnie is siezed solid and I can't budge it. I have removed the cover plate behind the steering wheel and pumped heaps of crc into that end but I can tell it is siezed near the other end as I can hear movement in the cable up to near the transom. Also after undoing the locknut at the end of the cable on the outboard the ram section moves freely. I was wondering how the cable was attatched at the outboard end as there is a metal rod protruding from the sleeve into the outboard and at the other end is the wire cable surrounded by a coil. Is it something I can do myself or should I take it to a boat yard? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

the steel rod
which is attached onto the end of the cable and goes through the sleeve on the motor will be jammed.
i have done a friends recently and used a copper hammer to knock the rod flush with the sleeve then got a
piece of steel rod to use as a punch and knock it all the way till it comes out of the sleeve and clean it all
up and lube it and push it back through the sleeve.

The steel rod is not jammed
The steel rod is not jammed in the motor keg but jammed in the cable sleeve.

once you
undo the nut you should be able to pull the whole cable assembly out of the motor tube.(the rod that sticks out the other end is part of the cable and should pull out with the cable once the nut is undone)if you can`t then the end of the cable rod is jammed in the tube and needs hammered out.
if you can remove the whole cable assembly and the steering is still jammed then it is a new steering cable required.
hope that makes sense.
