Rant
Ok, I know this is a public forum for everyone. But seriously, what is the excuse for poor English?
words and phrases like uses guys, thort, sore you out their, it was there fish, I bought my boat to the river, definate instead of definite, etc etc. very trivial I know, but you people don't make sense. It's very frustrating, and in today's world that we live in there is no excuse for it!
same with punctuation. It's the difference between knowing your shit, and knowing you're shit.
For those people that say it doesn't matter, well it does. It's the English language, we use it every day. We should be good at it. How many of us get shitty at foreigners who can't speak English properly? Pretty disgusting when such a huge percentage of us can't even use our own language properly.
there will always be exceptions to the rule such as stupid auto correct, and abbreviations.
Rant over. Sorry about that everyone. Though I do feel much better.

Missed a few capitals in
Missed a few capitals in there Justo and you can't have a comma then write and come on!
A fair point it must be said, it's sad when people have to shorten everything or just not use correct structure and grammer. Spelling i can undertstand, man I'm still bad at it but it would be nice if everybody just put a little more effort in when they type.

Too right. I did miss a few there. However, what I wrote still makes near perfect sense. Luckily I didn't say I brought a pie from the shop for lunch.

Yep, it shits me big time
Yep, it shits me big time too. I think a lot of the culprits are the young fellas who may be using their phones and find it easier to abbreviate than write the whole word. Maybe we should start being really picky, and comment every time someone puts up a heap if incoherant words.

I agree !
I agree with you Justo, incorrect use of punctuation and capital letters can completely change the meaning of a sentence.
When I was a boy, i used to help my Uncle Jack, off his horse.
That sentence has a differnt meaning when written :
When I was a boy I used to help my uncle jack off his horse.

Agree in part
I agree in part of what you are saying, but find it funny your own post is full of mistakes.
Suffering from Dyslexia i usualy have to read comments a few times to make sure i reply appropriately. When i write comments it takes me quite a while to do so, constantly re reading and checking my words and sentences.
To some members English is thier second language, so i can understand some mistakes to be made.
But i do agree some post's i can not understand, some effort to make them readable would not be that hard. ( and yes, to write this comment i had to use a dictionary and rearrange some of my words as i tend to put them out of order .)
Cheers Grant .

Yeah
Yeah i didn't find out till i was 30 years old, then it all made sense from strugling with many things. I am not as bad as some others with the condition but it took some training to understand the problem.
Most people don't know as i learnt ways to hide it .( I didn't know i was even doing this) Now i have my own bussiness and can even read plan's , well understand them as i always could read but never understood the formation of a sentence. (Its a bit hard to explain the way i interpreted words and numbers )
Any way, i got my first computer 4 years ago which has helped alot , Word and spell check are my friends lol .

That's awesome. If you can
That's awesome. If you can make an almost perfect sentence, whilst having a diagnosed disorder, then that leaves very little excuse for others..
I agree, spell check and grammar check make a huge difference if you are unsure.

Lift your game Grant there
Lift your game Grant there is two lls in usually I'll mark you 95% .. the most writing I do is on this forum and alot of us would be a bit rusty on proper sentence structuring and spelling . English is a friggin hard language even for us natives , my mrs is indonesian and after 15yrs here still she gets her words arse about . There's alot of people who aren't schooled so well . I would hate to think they're too paranoid to comment because they'll come under lots of scrutiny . I think it's just the text speak crap that sometimes has me reading comments 6 times over trying to make heads or tails of what they're talking about ..

Europe English
The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five year phase-in plan that would be known as "Euro-English".
In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of the "k". This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be ekspekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent "e"s in the language is disgraseful, and they should go away.
By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.
After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi to understand ech ozer. Ze drem vil finali kum tru! And zen world!

Great rant. Couldn't agree more.
It's not just online, but I see it in day to day business, from professionals that are qualified in a variety of fields but neglected to get their english down pat.

Not everyone was blessed
Not everyone was blessed with a good education, but we were all blessed with a passion for an intoxicatingly addictive hobby known as fishing. Are you suggesting that only the well educated and intelligent people of the fishing society can use fishwrecked? I understand it can be irritating reading text talk, but if you can't stand to communicate with like minded people, who may have learning difficulties or lacking intelligence, on a public forum, then I suggest you piss off somewhere else. Like you are perfect you hypocritical idiotical homo.

What if I was a "homo". Does that mean I'm not allowed on here because people like you will ridicule me? You're verging on hate. I just dislike a lack of effort from people when it comes to basic English. I'm not saying it has to be perfect, but at least make an effort for it to be coherent.

Point taken. But don't abuse
Point taken. But don't abuse people for expressing an opinion. Especially when it comes to race, sex, or sexual preference. It's definitely not cool, and shows a complete lack of respect an education from yourself.
I might also ad, I said rant in the title, and also said that it is a trivial thing. I never correct other people's posts or discussions. That's why I made a seperate thread to air my views. You don't need to agree with me, that's why we all have opinions. But I have never directly blasted anyone in this thread, just put my views up.

I agree Justo
I don't bother posting unless I feel have something useful to contribute, but I am on here a lot and do look at most of the posts. The ones I don't bother with are the "text speak" ones, and the ones so full of grammatical errors or lacking in any punctuation (you know, the ones with no caps, no full stops, no commas etc etc) that just take so long to work out what the poster is saying that I can't be bothered trying. So even if that poster is asking for some advice I could actually help with, there is no way I will bother responding.
Nobody's going to bother about the odd spelling mistake or error, but I agree some people could try a lot harder. It doesn't take a lot longer. I also suspect that there are others like me who would be happy to offer advice to more young members if they tried a little harder.
And I truly hate it when these threads descend into abuse and ridicule like where AlwaysFishin is heading above.

Chill pill everyone
All Justo is saying is take the time to get it right.
There is a big difference between someone making mistakes and someone who just cant be bothered in even trying.
No body is ridiculing the spelling mistakes. We all make them, but, if you are going to communicate on a forum, dont stoop to the lowest common denominator and use TXT speak.
I did then the best that I knew how. When I knew better, I did better.

You do have a point Justo but
You do have a point Justo but personally I will forgive average spelling, sentence structuring on the internet. It used to bug me as I make sure what I write is done properly and judged others mistakes against my own standards (which aren't perfect) however these days I don't fuss over it anymore. I can get the gist of what someone is saying even if it does look like a dogs breakfast.
What I don't forgive however is the same stuff in professional situations, like reading reports, instructions etc and also certain fishing magazines that I have read which have slipped in the odd bit of text speak, missplaced commas, innappropriate words and phrases and just poorly structured sentences etc thanks to some very woeful editing.

dsylexic
I know a few people are dyslexic who post on this forum and thats fine. I know some that struggle with spelling and that is rather obvious and again, not a problem. The guys that don't take the time or effort are usually notified, but I have been a bit lapse on that because I just don't have the time any more.
As for it being a whinge fest, welcome to the digital era. I reckon we're not too bad for whinging and bitching, check out a few other sites around, lol!
