Raymarine e7d
Howdy
A little while ago I purchased an e7d to replace a a65d, thats where the trouble started. I have had endless dramas with touchscreen alignment and position fixes as well as the sounder changing transducer settings without letting me know. I am getting a little sick of this thing and having to constantly muck around with it just to use it. When it works its great but it is a hassle. I have read a heap of stuff since about touchscreen issues and I have updated software as recently as last week and performed the recommended factory reset and the issues still persist.
Has anyone got one of these and had similar issues and solved the porblem. I have tried the Raymarine technical forum and followed all instructions there and on their website and I have contacted Raymarines Australian support people on four occassions and no one has done me the courtesy of a reply.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a E7D which is annoying me with Voltdrop, touchscreen and gps haha
And i have a Dragonfly which is brilliant no problem with vd, no issue what so ever to be honest. i rekon the a78 would be a cracker! Till is running the E127 and cp100 and looks the goods !
The E7 picks up the smallest drop the only way i can fix it is with a capacitor diode setup but i cbf haha.

Interesting choice for Till.
Interesting choice for Till. I thought he was very anti Chirp. Sure gave one member here a hard time for a fair while, until he stopped posting in fact.

Touchscreen!!!
I want to touch it with a freakin hammer, sorry to hear others are having issues with these things but in a twisted sort of way I'm glad its not just me. If you ask Raymarine (and get a reply) people are making this stuff up or not following the right update process. I did read though that they conceded there was an issue and that they had come up with a technical and permanent fix for the touchscreen issues. The problem with that is you need to contact local support and good luck with that.
Touchscreen seemed like such a good idea at the time. I will follow this through though and see where it takes me, this message was on the Raymarine Technical forum for anyone interested:
Recently, Raymarine has identified a potential touchscreen alignment issue in some e7 and e7D multifunction displays. Customers may experience an issue with the e7/e7D touchscreen, which may cause the alignment to drift and cause potentially poor and inaccurate touchscreen performance. The touchscreen alignment procedure described in the e7/e7D manual will remedy the problem temporarily, but over extended use, the e7/e7D touchscreen performance may degrade again.
Raymarine is committed to customer satisfaction and quality, ensuring all our customers experience the best performance possible when using our products. A remedy to the potential touchscreen issue has been identified and as a result Raymarine is launching a customer care campaign for all e7 and e7D owners who experience touchscreen issues.
You can now return your unit and have it replaced. Good luck

Returning the e7d
Hi guys
As I mentioned before you can now return and exchange faulty units, its simple enough and all you need is the serial number. When you have finished you get return instructions and hopefully in a reasonable period of time, a new working e7d. Won't that be nice. Thed link to the forum is below and then just follow your nose.

Customer Care Program
So contacted Raymarine (Aus) today to see if I could get an update on when I might get a replacement e7D. Mine was delivered to them on 23/1/14. Interestingly the guy I spoke to didn't know the customer care program was advertised in Australia yet so I had to point him in the direction of the Raymarine Oz website. After he conceded that he had a sudden epiphany that mine was on back order and because I had already sent it I was in front of everyone else in the country. Didnt want any receipt or other info and wasn't really interesting in having any sort of a look.
No dates or estimates of dates could be provided its a matter of one becoming available. Probably dont see too much value in ringing these guys again so I will just sit back and wait for stuff to happen.
Its certainly not for me to tell a major company like Raymarine how to suck eggs but I would have thought that some level of internal communication would have taken place and that their customer contact staff would know whats been advertsied, how it works and that they would be able to look up details to answer queries or have some sort of standard line. The guy I spoke to seemed to know less about this than me which is a little scary. Its probably just me being precious but I think I am being treated with contempt when the messge I get is yeah we have your unit and you money so what if the product didn't actually work now just wait quietly to the side until we are ready to deal with you. Not even an acknowledgement that they received the return, I only know that from the AusPost tracking, I think that is a little poor.
I note that they are still selling these units so new customers seem to have priority over existing.

Got my replacement unit
Ok, I take some of it back. Whilst people on the phone I spoke to at Raymarine didn't know what was happening with this program someone obviously did. I received my replacement unit last night and the difference with the tiouchscreen is obvious. Heaps better.
It doesn't come with the latest software so it will need an update but thats not hard.
Just to prove that I am an idiot I received the absolute bare head unit so I went back to the instructions they sent me and sure enough it did say strip off the front and rear bezels before returning which I didn't do. I won't hassle Raymarine about this one my fault for not reading the instructions. Just need to find where to buy these from now. Strangely though they sent me a new sun cover with the exchange unit. If anyone gets one with front and rear bezels attached let me know I will buy them off you.
