Hey guys how are we all, Help. I am new to ballooning this was my second attemped, Right I went out last night ( off the beach ) to fish the easterly around midnight. I'm not having any luck getting the balloon out, it just keeps getting pushed back into shore. In using 50 pound braid main line to a 80lb top shot of around 50 meters to my wire of around a meter. And the balloon off the swivel at the start of wire. Does this sound ok or should I do somthing different, or am I just picking the wrong winds, any advice would help heaps, thanks guy Rails8291

as far as i know you generaly have a running swivel on your main line to which the balloon is attatched keep your bait on shore and let the balloon get blown out to sea pulling your mainline with it when you have reached the desired distance let your bait go and it should skip out along the surface to the position where your balloon is, you do need the wind almost at your back
i assume you are using helium not just air?

yeah that rig wont work for
yeah that rig wont work for you without gas. you dont need gas (although better results if targeting macks) and you will need a good strong wind blowing from behind you. want your 50lb attached to around 8-10m of 80-100lb heavy leader (more and heavier if off rocks or targeting much larger fish) going straight onto a 200lb crane swivel. from the bottom ring you want about 2-3m of the same heavy leader going onto a 200lb bb swivel, from there attach 80cm of 100lb (lighter or heavier depending on whether targeting mack or shark) to your hooks. hook config is all about the bait, alive, dead, size etc. from the side ring on the crane attach a small split ring and then a clip swivel (by the fixed ring)onto the split ring. when you put your balloon on, double over the rubber below the knot and put the clip through the rubber. this will fix it well but will tear through nicely when a fish hits it. attaching the balloon directly this way makes it easier to put on new balloons, will not get caught up in the rope gaff if your using one and also imparts more action inot the bait because of the direct attachment. this is just the way i go about it, theres alot of different ideas and alot work, i find this one to be nice and easy to use.
keen to see some other peoples rigs:)

Regardless of rig, if your
Regardless of rig, if your balloon is washing up I'd say the winds are not quite right! Depending on the shore break, you usually need a pretty stiff breeze or decent gusts to get the balloon going. Helium may help, or you can consider investing in bigger balloons. Another option would be to try launching off of a jetty or groyne.

Light winds
And no rocks around, Take the mono off it will help big time but if east winds are not strong [Forget it]
Oh and the balloon has to be 20m in the air above the bait, With the bait skipping on the water
Eastwinds 6 knots the other day, And i did not take my ballooning gear with me
