Submitted by maskie on Tue, 2013-07-09 20:11
Hi guys I'm currently in the market for the mother ship. Can anyone recommend or give me there opinions on a nice boat to purchase. I'm after a very comfortable ride with plenty of deck Space for 3. Also hardtop I'm after something with a outboard I want to stay away from stern drive in boards. I'd appreciate your opinions.

Robinson street
If that's the one down on Robinson street, its a very nice tub, really looks the part.
If he's chasing a cat all he needs to do is find Rosco's one, it was last seen upside down anchored about 2nm off the end of the jetty and hasn't been seen since.

Mate, I looked at a lot of
Mate, I looked at a lot of boats in the 7-8 m range, ended with a Boston Whaler Conquest 235. About $85k landed with upgraded electronics. Aussie boats were just too expensive for what you got compared with importing, but since then the Oz dollar has gone from 1.05 to 0.91m so prices are now higher to import.
After 4 months, here is a list of pro's and cons (all boats have both):
PRO
- Great deck layout, heaps of space and unlike any other american boat in the transom design makes it great to jig from.
- Top notch finish. Whalers are a step above most boats, but you do pay for it.
- Great ride (a major requirement as my back is stuffed)
-250 hp Verado MUCH better than expected, I was not a fan previously. Quiet, HEAPS more torque than naturally aspirated 4 strokes.
- Top speed 37 knots and can sit on 30 knots all day, 24 knots the most economical speed at 1 km/L.
- Flexible layout makes it great to fish from but still good to go to Rotto with the family.
- Very responsive to trim and trim tabs, you can easily dial in good economy (nose up) or good ride into big chop (nose down).
- Very slow drift, I dont need to use a sea onchor. This is a HUGE advantage when jigging.
- Unsinkable design and very seaworthy design makes you feel very safe even in very rough weather.
CON
- standard Mirage plus Prop 15P was terrible. Upgrade to same 15P but Enertia prop chnaged the whole boat. $1000, but well worth it.
- the sides are quite low which is great for jigging and results in a slow drift as the wind does not catch it, but not so great for bracing yourself in rough weather when bottom bashing. I jig, so this is not a concern to me.
- Verado loves juice if you push it hard and get it into high supercharger boost. Under 4500 rpm (27 knots) it is similar to any of the 4 strokes.
- Deep V makes it a bit tender at rest in chop, like most deep V mono hulls. This is why the ride is good, but makes it uncomfortable in rough weather when drifting sideways. I tend to drift nose first, makes it heaps more comfortable in chop.
All in all, I could not be happier with my boat, absolutely love it and feel very safe in any conditions.
If you are a keen jigger and want something a bit more comfortable than a centre console, this is THE boat for you. I find it hard to think of a better boat, regardless of price for this purpose.
If you are a bottom basher who likes to drift fish in rough conditions, I would say a Haines Hunter Partiot may be a better choice with higher sides.
If you want to trailer it longer distances and possibly beach launch aand dont mind a harsher ride, then the lighter weight of a custom ali may be the go.
Hope this helps.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

I may have a customer keen
I may have a customer keen to sell his Haines Hunter 760R. It's just over 12 months old with a Yamaha 300HP 4-Stroke and bugger all use. These things. Are awesome with huge deck space but not a massive cabin. Definitely aimed at the Fisherman! The fella is looking for something more suitable to spend the weekend on at Rotto...
