There are a few out in fishwrecked land who dont like my 'dribble' about fremantle fc and would rather trash fremantle than talk up their own team.
Your posts say more about you than they say about fremantle fc.
My expectations for 2013 were for fremantle to finish top 4. They exceeded my expectations and I am happy. I am disappointed they didn't win the flag. But simply, whilst being better than they were last year, they simply were not good enough to win the flag this year. And hawthorn were.
I'll go on record right here and now. My expectation for 2014 is for a premiership and anything else will be an under achievement.
And I'll support them to the hilt. If you don't like my 'dribble', dont read it.

i disagree that they were not good enough. i am a eagles supporter for the record. but i feel that the dockers should have won they simply didnt play the way they have played all year. so many sets shots on goal that should have been slotted through. i am gutted that they didnt win. i was so confident that they would. shit happens but... maybe next year there will be a derby final and the dockers will be flagless still :)

I watched it again today, poor kicking on goal cost us the game no doubt about it. Ballantyne and pearce very rusty for most of the game. That 50 to buddy was a fugging disgrace, out of bounds on full to a goal, even commentators said was crap, very poor imo.

Well,
IMO it would prove the theory going around that the style of play the Ross coaches is very effective and wins alot of games during the regular season but doesn't hold up in GF's.
Happened 3 times (including the replay) at St Kilda and has now happened once at Freo.
I'm not bagging Ross as a person or as a coach. I rate him very highly as a coach and the way he's transformed the current crop of players at Freo is outstanding. He obviously has the ability to get them to sign in to his mantra and adhere to the style of play that he preaches. I personally feel that if he can add some more attack to their current style and obviously work on their foot skills Freo will be a far more dangerous side.
I totally agree with your point Rob but if he goes 0-5 questions will be asked.

I`m a Hawk and expected us to win. Freo have been good, very good but because they played well for a couple of quarters against Sydney the hype that was created was over the top. Hawthorn also played Sydney a couple of weeks before and beat them by 54. It was good to see the Freo fans rise up for their team. I also re-watched the game today and the umpiring wasn't the best. Whether Mcpharlin went over the mark or not the penalty seemed large. All that aside Freo never challenged. Hawks did it pretty easy. See you there next year Buddyless, we`ll fill the void. Box Hill and Hawks premiers in 2013!

Ok, on a serious note, I just rewatched the game so I could analise it a little closer. *sip jimmy can*
I have learnt the purpose of the crappy defensive tactics of Lyon. Lower scores, means lower margins, which means you can always be with in reach if you are behind at parts of the game when you have your run of it, percentage football, but not when your opposition does it better and has a more potent attack.
You Freo fans bang on about it only being 15 points in the end, and got to with in a goal, but really, the Dockers were beaten for a greater part of the game by a team that played Freos style better. The Hawk's pressure and tackling was first class. The amount of holding the ball free kicks we got signified this, they were brutal with their tacking. The higher clearance stat compared to a hitout dominance by Sandy showed we had the smarts to beat them in those situations. Singling out individual moments such as Buddy's 50 is just lame. There were frees that we could have gotten that were just as soft that would have influenced the score. Saying that Hawthorn didnt win, Freo just simply lost the match due to inaccuracy is just a failure to accept defeat. We missed plenty of getable goals too so tit for tat. You couldnt blame inexperince for the poor disposals across the ground, several of your old boys were sprayin them too. Forget the margin. Hawks were the better side.
We had 3 times the Dockers score at half time, which directly reflected the way the match was played till then. Hawthorn were three times a better side in the first half.
A 10 min patch by Freo, winning some ball in the middle (Sandilands actually getting it to his teammates) saw the Dockers get close twice, but to Hawthorn's credit, they had the answers to keep them at bay. Smithys bomb from 50 at the start of the final was awesome. Roughy missed a few, as he continued his not so fruitful final series infront of the sticks, but when Breust roved another Sandi tap to kick a goal, that just put an exclamation mark on our dominance in that area. Hillys goal put it beyond doubt but not before Freo had another crack. They seemed to be comming, but the fact they kept missing meant the ball stayed down that end for so long. A goal, and back to the center and we were just as certain to go forward again. I loved Mitchell's tackle on Fyth then to get up and hit Johnston and spill the ball was just pure Hawthorn. we were hungry at every contest, for all of the game. Poppy's effort in the pocket in the last quater also sybolised outr desire to win every contest and attack. Lake deserved the Norm Smith. So many times he took rebound marks and drove the ball forward for us, especially in crucial times when Freo had their run. He was the general down back, very much like Hodgey's Norm Smith performance in 08.
All in all, as you said Andy, Freo got out Freoed, we beat them at their own game, I didnt see any blow torches Randall lol. We have always had good defensive pressure but have a potent attack too which makes us hard to beat. Brilliant coaching and a calculated, well executed game plan, played out till the final siren by the boys, meant tey are deserved winners. The usual names to feature in Freos best were there again. Fyth, Mundy and Barlow are quality mids, but our tackling was the key to lowering their impact and it did. Freo fans, realistically needed to be a bit more optimistic, a ground they dont visit much, the pressure of their first big dance, I would have been just happy enough that they got there, but hey, can you blame them, they've waited this long, they didnt think about loosing, the fantasy of being premiers was too much to ignore.
2013 is the year of the Hawk! There you go faggots, you wanted me to say something good about my side hahaha cant wait for round 1 next year, Freo will have to show if they do have the goods, they will get a tougher draw like we did this year.

All these post show why it's the best game in the world.
Freo would have won if the out of bounds on the full kicks for goal in the first quarter had even been points that were nearly goals.
The occasion is huge, and proved too much for the players and club. Our crew found the game a bit hard to get into, but that's how some GFs are.
At least Freo will have something to lookforward to in 2014.
