Redfin bycatch

Went down to harvey dam today to chase redfin with no luck so decided to have a crack off the main road in the harvey river. To my surprise it was full of goldfish? I knew the collie river had them but didn't think harvey did. We caught a handful on bread to have a better look, they were gold, red, black etc. Was pretty unimpressed to say the least.

After this we tried a new spot on another river a bit closer to home but still no redfin, although I did get a nicer surprise at this spot. A healthy rainbow that fought very well for its size.

I would rather a nice reddy but there's always next time

That's real bad news

Those things are in just about all the metro "ponds" and lakes yet the town councils won't allow kids to fish them out and get rid of them .

The authorities have it all a bit backwards just like needing a freshwater fishing licence to fish for noxious redfin

At the very least we should be able to have the option to purchase a weekend permit like they do over East. Not a chance I am paying $140 to take my family camping for a weekend to do a spot of freshwater fishing

kids under 16 do not need a freshwater license.  Do need a marron license but 50% discount.

Still it is a big amount for what is a very poor fishery.  If they allowed fishing in water corp dams/catchments then ok with price.

OH (big nasty swear word) - if they are there everything will be (same big nasty swear word with -ed) soon. No Marron, no trout and even no redfin. Bastards eat FN everything.
In the past lived on the Harvey River off Stansfield Rd and it was fantastic for some nice big marron. That place now underwater but it was still good for marron up river. Now I suspect it will all be lost forever if these uglies get in.

Crasny, I think the pic that Luke put up of the koi is down at the bridge on SW highway.  I went there yesterday and put a few drop nets in just under and downstream of the bridge.  We always got marron there when I was a kid.

Yesterday ------Nothin.   Zilch !!!!.  Saw a big Koi.
