Reds and rain
Submitted by big john on Sun, 2009-02-15 17:11
I remember talking to an old boy in Coral Bay a few years ago who claimed that after good rains, red emperor move in closer to shore (30-40m there) to feed.
Was this bloke blowing smoke up my you know what or has anyone else experienced/heard this?

Move in close
I know they move in closer during the summer months, but can't confirm if its due to the rain or not. One bloke speared an 11kg red in 12m of water here last Thursday, not sure where it was though.

Nice
That would have looked huge underwater!
When the rain stops I'll have to do some field testing myself.

Time
Why didn't you say hello then you bum. :)
Was a big day, left Onslow at 3.00am, dropped boat off at 7.00am, hit maccas, shops then kfc and left town by 12.30pm, home by 4.30pm.
Service went well, price was fair but whoever was manning the grease gun left a fair bit of mess. Also the fact that the outboard well was left with a covering of engine oil cheesed me off a bit.
Let us know when your planning on coming down, I've got the whole first week of the April school holidays set aside for some island camping/fishing. Obviously that might not fit in with your situation but if it did we could tee something up.
Probably do it by PM's if your keen.

Splurge
Not to bad Rosco, considering I only have it about once a term during the year.
Just confirming PD dates and then I'll help you organise your plane ticket. Had a look yesterday and heaps of flights and seats still available at about $530-40.
