i have that exact rod and reel combo and it has caught more fish than any other combo I own!
it is nicknamed the dhuie slayer because literally any time we are in an area where the Dhuies as on the chew it always catches one. I have caught Dhuies up to 15 odd kilo on it no dramas.
they are a super robust reel and also the bright red reel compliments the colour of the demon blood rod.
Or is it not worth trying to stop them on anything which will allow you to have some fun with Dhufish, and still be a nice light weight demersal setup which you can happily jig all day.
Ive only caught one fish on that catalina 4000 and it was a 25kg sambo in 25m of water behind 3 mile and Locked up it pulled about 5 meters on line on its first run..i think 10kg of drag is plenty
Just matched my new Saragosa 6000SW to a 64CJ(which i bought of maxlayer). Going to run Saltiga Boat Braid PE3. Will see how it goes when I go out next, but feels perfect for it.
oh yeah...64CJ! the 64 is better suited to a 4500 size reel like the Catalina or the Saltiga, awesome rod for value for money and Daiwa has the new range of the Demon Bloods out, the balance would be biased with a lighter reel like a 4000 imo.
I have a 4500 and it sits well with the 64 and I think Ray and Annes did sell it as a high end combo except the rod was a Saltiga version of the 64Combi Jerk.
Take it in to your local and get a feel for what your after and do the research into what the other boys use and stick to a budget- i still cant manage the budget thing but then again I dont tell the accountant everything...
Run a TD SOL II 4000H on mine. I don't know much about pairing rods with reels but that was what everyone was recommending when I did my research a couple of years ago. Im pretty happy with it.
Just found this video. Might be of some use to you.
its the gear ratio mate- hi speed v standard spin models
4000= 4.9
4020= 5.7
you said you want to run PE3? which is 50lb, I have 2 x spools for the Saltiga 4000 so I can run 30lb and 50lb but my preference for rods can vary depending on what your application is like the spools- if your dropping baits/live baiting and running a jig sometimes then stick with the 4000/4500/5000 if your spinning lures and want the high speed retrieve then go for a the 4020H or 5000H not sure about the Shimano gear but they will have PG for power gear and a high speed model to choose from.
Any of the Shimano 5000/6000s would suit that rod perfectly. They are the same physical body sizes but the spool is deeper on the 6000 (it will fit 300m of PE3). In the Stella SWB you have the choice of a 6000HG or 6000PG. The 6000HG will be a better all rounder but if you plan to ONLY use it for jigging then the PG will be the way to go.
Others to consider at different price points which will all do an admirable job are the Saragosa SW, Sustain and Stradic.
Might save up for a Stella, I work at a fishing store so I just wanted to hear everyone opinion, can always go for a chat/convo about fishing. Thanks everyone, appreciate my fellow FW member's opinions.

Drag
What do people think of the salting 4000 with 10kg of drag, do you ever feel like you need some more? Like is that why you recommend the 4500?
I fish the 3 mile regularly and we get smashed by sambos which are no pups;

Depends on your budget
I would recommend either:
the Stella 5000
or the Catalina 4020
I have the stella 5000 with PE 3 on mine.
